“ America is built on steel” Railroads, bridges, skyscrapers, automobiles and a lot more Carnegie Steel became United States Steel Corporation Working Conditions were horrible for employees

Established a vertical monopoly, while driving out competition. Abused his workers Used force to break labor unions and strikes. Carnegie as a philanthropist Gave most of his money away. Have you heard of Carnegie Hall? How about Carnegie-Mellon Institute? What American city became famous for the steel industry?

4 John Rockefeller Developed the American oil Industry
Created a horizontal monopoly Drove competition out of business Like Carnegie called a “Robber Baron” Thought he was above the law. Richest man in Am. History Rockefeller Center, Gave billions away.

5 Henry Ford Used the assembly line to produce Cars that almost everyone could afford. Model-T Ford sold for less than $200 By the mid-1920s. Changed the way Americans lived.
