Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The white blood cells in this photomicrograph are increased in number and have a high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratio. The chromatin in the nuclei is clumped and more heterogeneous in appearance. The terms “cracked earth” and “gingersnap” are used to describe the nuclear appearance of CLL cells. Wright-Giemsa, 1000×.
