Revit® Architecture 2012 Stairs, Railings, and Ramps (Circulation)

C H A P T E R OBJECTIVES • Learn how to create and modify Straight stairs using the Run tool. • Learn how to create and modify U-shaped stairs using the Run tool. • Learn how to add and delete risers. • Learn how to create and modify stairs using the Boundary tool. • Learn how to create Multistory stairs. • Learn how to create Monolithic stairs. • Learn how to modify and host Rail objects. • Learn how to create Ramps.

Introduction Stairs, railings, and ramps are an important part of almost every project and where designers often make mistakes. Revit Architecture 2012’s stair and railing systems aid in the productivity and accuracy of these objects. Because of the complexity and variance of stairs, there are many settings. Once these are understood and preset, placing and modifying stairs is quite easy. By creating your own Revit Families , stairs, railings, and ramps can be placed into a project quickly and efficiently.

Monolithic Stairs In Revit Architecture 2012, cast concrete stairs are called Monolithic stairs.

Railings You can add railings as freestanding components to levels or attach them to hosts (such as floors, ramps, or stairs).

Rail profiles The rails and baluster shapes are controlled by profiles. You can start with the default profiles and modify them to create new profiles. The rail profiles are contained in the Profiles > Stairs folder in either the Imperial or Metric Library

Railing Path “Place lines where you want a rail, and press the Finish Edit Mode button to create the railing”

Ramps With the inception of accessibility codes for accommodating people with disabilities, ramps have become very important. Revit Architecture has a specialized routine specifically for ramps.
