2 Camp Cost Sky Ranch is $ Online payment is preferred, however you may pay by check with DL number and phone number or cash. If you pay online, please send in a receipt. Payment is due by Friday, September 8, 2018.

3 Camp Forms All forms and money are due by Friday, September 8, 2017.
Students will not be allowed on the bus unless all paperwork is turned in to their homeroom teacher.

4 Who will be going to Sky Ranch?
All fifth grade teachers, Mr. Lee, and Nurse Lara Climer from AISD. All fifth graders who plan to attend. Parent Chaperones

5 What if a student is not attending Sky Ranch?
All students who are not attending Sky Ranch will be attending Cheatham Ranch! Cheatham Ranch is located at school. Cheatham Ranch students will be participating in related Sky Ranch activities at school. Cheatham Ranch students will not be in their normal math, reading, science, and social studies classes. Cheatham Ranch students are expected to attend school. If they do not come to school, they will be counted as absent.

10 The Morning of Wednesday…
Students are to bring their luggage to the bike racks (weather permitting). Chaperones will be there to help teachers. After dropping off their luggage, students will go to the gym. Please discuss with your child how he/she will be getting home on Friday. Students will come into their homerooms from the gym. Their Sky Ranch packet will be waiting for them in their classroom and it will include their cabin assignment and day group assignment for Sky Ranch.

11 Sample Schedule

12 Day Classes and Activities Cheatham students will be participating in 4 classes… Limnology (Aquatic Study) Become “immersed” in Limnology, the study of freshwater. Spend time in our Limnology Center investigating water quality, the water web, life cycles, learned and inherited traits. Observe aquatic animals in our aquariums and hold a live turtle from out touch tank. Conduct water quality measurements using genuine scientific equipment. Make field collections of aquatic plans and animals at Sky Lake. Forces in Nature Explore the Forces in Nature which shape our Environment. Learn about gravity and friction while using our four story zip line. Discover gases and pressure during the building and launching of air rockets. Take a one hour nature hike and observe the real life effects of weathering agents, erosion, and deposition on the landscape. Sky Ranch Expeditions Become a part of an expedition team exploring terrestrial ecology. Travel to Sky Ranch Expeditions’ base camp to learn about animal characteristics, animal behavior, anatomy, physiology and taxonomy. Observe live animals such as a boa constrictor, green iguana, sugar gliders, ferrets, tarantula, hedgehog, and many others. Discover predator/prey relationships, habitats, food web, and learned and inherited traits. Travel into the woods and meadows of Sky Ranch to collect insects and study forest dynamics including carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, ecological niche, plant succession, and tree rings. Native Americans Traveling back in time, your students will become young braves and squaws in our tribe. They will learn skills which will make them assets as members of our tribes. These skills will include hunting with bows and arrows, cooking as the grind corn and make corn cakes to be cooked over a re, how Native Americans stored food and water so they make pottery, and how the tribe made re for cooking and warmth. This class is a great hands-on class and your students will not only learn, but have fun while they are learning.

14 Our Return We will arrive back at school around 2:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 22nd. Please pull through the regular car pool line for 5th grade if you are picking up your child. Students are not encouraged to ride the bus due to their luggage and sleeping bags. Please do not take your child unless you sign him/her out through a 5th grade teacher or a school staff member.
