1 Structural drawing

2 STRUCTURE AND MATERIAL
Structural drawing consists of the preparation of design and construction drawings for buildings, bridges, domes, tanks, towers, and other civil structures. Most of our structures also have many interconnecting parts such as beams, girders and columns, that forms a structure. The materials most commonly used in construction are wood, glass, structural steel, aluminum, concrete (plain, reinforced, and pre-stressed), structural clay products, and stone masonry (plain and reinforced). 5 Joints and Connectors Typical Bolted Joints

6 22.4 STRUCTURE STEEL DRAFTING
Structure steel drawings are ordinarily of two types: Engineering design drawings made in the design engineer’s office. Manufacturing (shop) drawings usually made in the office of steel fabricator. ME 210, Chapter 22, Week#13

7 Design Drawings Design drawings are primarily shown Overall dimension.
Location of columns, beams, angles and other shapes. Listing the sizes of these members. Information about the cross section and connectors. Various necessary notes. ME 210, Chapter 22, Week#13

8 Design drawings Design drawings show the overall dimensions of the structure, such as the location of columns, beams, angles, and other structural shapes, and list the sizes of these members. Detail in the form of typical cross sections, special connections required, and various notes are also included. Typical Steel Floor Design Plan

9 W12 x 27 means Weight 27 lb per foot and width of the member is 12 inch.
ME 210, Chapter 22, Week#13

10 Shop Drawings Shop Drawings consist of detail drawings of all parts of the entire structure, showing exactly how the parts are to be made. ME 210, Chapter 22, Week#13

11 Shop Drawings Fabrication, shop methods, and field construction methods must be fully understood by the detailer. Floor Beam Shop Drawing

12 WELDING The fillet weld is most common in structural steel fabrication. Use standard weld symbols to simplify making the shop drawings. 1/4 A ¼ inch leg length fillet weld

13 Piece Marks A system is used to mark each piece that is separately handled This mark is called a piece mark and should be shown wherever the member appears on the drawings

14 Piece Marks

15 Structural Steel Shapes
Aluminum and magnesium shapes are also available but here only steel shapes. Structural steel is available in many standard shapes Available shapes are (made by rolling mills) Square, Flat, Round, Plate Angle, Channel, I-section, T-section, Most CAD programs have structural shapes symbol libraries available

17 Example for specification 14 inch nominal depth, 53 pound per foot weight, and over all length of 26 foot and 2-1/8 inch. ME 210, Chapter 22, Week#13
