1 Welcome to 3rd Grade Open House!

2 My Goals for this year… To give my students all the tools and strategies to be good readers and thinkers. To provide my students with the academic and social skills needed to progress to 4th grade. To provide my students with strategies to pass the end of the year reading and math tests.

3 3rd Grade Expectations Reading Read at grade level (or higher!)
Recognize text features and text structure Use reading strategies to comprehend fiction and nonfiction texts Math Place Values Multiplying one and two digit numbers Fractions Telling and writing time to the nearest minute Analyzing and understand 2-step word problems Social Studies Character Education Geography & The U.S. Government & Economics Science Use the scientific method Engage in Science Labs

4 Class Schedule Daily instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. Specials: Wed. Thurs., and Fri. : Spanish with Mrs. Rojas Tuesday- Art with Ms.Paula Moday: Music with Mr.Odio Monday-Friday: PE with Coach Borrel

5 FSA Preparation Participating in class discussions Analytical Writing
Completing homework and classwork assigned Completing assigned sessions of Reflex Math, Iready, and Accelerated Reader on a weekly basis. FSA Tutoring - Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in October

6 PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
FSA Information Math will be COMPUTER BASED this school year. Expose students to keyboarding/ computer skills Multiplication Tables: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! TESTING WINDOW: February 27 - April 14

7 Attendance Students must bring in a note when they are absent (within 3 days of absence). Only acceptable excused absences are: student illness, death in family, observance of a mandated religious holiday. 10 Tardies = 1 referral 3 unexcused absences = 1 referral 5 unexcused Early Dismissal = 1 referral

9 Homework Policy Homework will be given every weekday night and on some weekends. Students will be responsible for copying homework into the agenda every morning. Students are responsible for their homework and materials.

Grading Scale 90%-100% = A = Outstanding Progress 80%-89% = B = Above Average Progress 70%-79% = C = Average Progress 60%-69% = D = Minimal Progress 0%-59% = F = Failure 0% = Z = Assignment was not turned in X = Assignment was excused * Grades are earned, not given! *

12 Academic Dishonesty Cheating will not be tolerated on any assignment that is completed . 1st time – F on assignment and a Notice of Misconduct 2nd time – F on assignment, a Notice of Misconduct, and loss of privilege 3rd time – F on assignment, a Notice of Misconduct, loss of privilege, and a referral.

13 Green Mater Sweaters or Jackets.
School Uniform Students can only wear: Yellow Polo Shirt and Khaki pants Green Mater Sweaters or Jackets. Uniform shirts must be tucked in at all times. Wear a belt. Students may wear Mater T-shirt on Fridays. Fridays are JEANS DAY for a $1.00. NO DOLLAR, NO JEANS!

18 Classroom Tips Our classroom can get chilly, make sure to send your child to school with their green sweater. Send your child to school with a water bottle. Encourage your child to maintain a neat desk and backpack! Many papers/ assignments get lost along the way in a messy desk.
