1 Introduction Paragraph
The purpose of an introduction paragraph is to INTRODUCE your topic to your audience and state what you will prove (your thesis). A standard introduction paragraph is SIX sentences long. We have: The Grabber or The Hook or The Lead The Bridge or The Connector The Roadmap or Preview The Thesis Statement

2 What are you proving? In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses Mrs. Dubose, Mr. Dolphus Raymond, and Boo Radley to show that people are not always as they seem.

3 We start off with a BROAD idea
And then we get SPECIFIC

4 The Three Sentence Roadmap
The Grabber The Bridge The Three Sentence Roadmap The Thesis

5 The Grabber Otherwise known as the hook or the lead
“grabs” the attention of the reader It is a broad, general statement that can still be applied today. Can be in the form of a question Ex: There is more than one side to a person.

6 The Bridge Connects what you said in your grabber to your topic
Need to have author’s name and the book title. It’s the sentence where you begin to introduce your topic. Ex: In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the author portrays many characters who are perceived differently from their real personalities.

7 The Roadmap These sentences (three) will preview what is to come in your paper The three events or characters Thesis: In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses Mrs. Dubose, Mr. Dolphus Raymond, and Boo Radley to show that people are not always as they seem. EX: Mrs. Dubose appears to be a cruel and racist woman. Mr. Raymond is known as the town drunk. Boo Radley is assumed to be a monster because he does not leave his house.
