1 Learner Outcomes (9/19/17) TSWBAT identify different aspects of time zones and regions of the United States (F/P) TSWBAT: Describe the cultural and physical characteristics of the four sub regions of the U.S. (T/R)

2 Purpose To better understand in which ways and why the regions of the U. S. are different from each other both culturally and physically.

4 Starting Assignment Living in New Orleans, If you wanted to watch a TV show that aired at 10 pm Eastern Time, what time would it come on Central Time?

8 Time Zones

9 High Noon Cities and towns local time based on the sun’s location in the sky, called “high noon”. Easy to locate, it was when the sun was directly overhead of the city. Therefore each city had its own local time.

11 Standard Time Standard time and time zones were implemented because of the railroads. Railroads connected the country, and became a main method of transportation. This created a need for a more centralized time system
