Bible Study Principle #1 is Context
…meaning, if you don’t understand how what you're reading relates to the whole of scripture, then you are in danger of misapplying the information.

A Burden for Israel Romans 9:1-5

Why so burdened Paul? Rom 9:1  I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,  2.  That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

KEY POINT The burden of Christian enlightenment is the awareness of the value of a soul

Israel’s Lostness v3. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

Israel’s Lostness Exo 32:30-33  And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.  (31)  And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.  (32)  Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.  (33)  And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

Israel’s Lostness Act 20:23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

KEY POINT For a Christian it is necessary that our emotions and actions reflect God’s love for the human soul.

Israel’s Lostness 1Co 9:19 For though I be free from all [men], yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all [men], that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with [you].

Israel’s Lostness It’s possible to want salvation for the lost more than the lost want salvation for themselves …so until they do, let it drive you to pray.
