Good morning/afternoon class, my presentation today will be on the country Portugal and where you should visit if you are ever to travel there. By: Megan Whelan

Population of 10.4 million Bordered by Atlantic Ocean Portugal is the oldest country in Europe, having had the same defined borders since It has a population of 10.4 million, which is significantly smaller than its neighboring country Spain, who has a population of 46.7 million people. As a coastal country Portugal’s Western and Southern are exposed to the Atlantic Ocean.

The 9 countries are : Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe.

5 Cities To See Lisbon Algarve Obidos Sintra
The top cities to visit in Portugal are: Lisbon, Algarve, Obidos, and Sintra.

6 Lisbon Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and should be your first stop when visiting Portugal. It’s a compact and intimate city with a lively café culture and a nightlife that is one of the most vibrant in Europe. It is Western Europe’s least expensive capital to visit and has a mild climate, which makes it an ideal year-round destination. Lisbon is full of beautiful sites to see such as the Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower, and St. George’s Castle.

7 Algarve Algarve is the southernmost point of mainland Portugal. It is one the most popular tourist destinations in Portugal, as well as Europe. The population triples in the peak holiday season, it receives an average of 10 million visitors each year. Algarve’s star attractions are without a doubt the stunning coastline. Long expanses of soft, golden sand, secluded coves backed by cliffs and topped by vibrant green pines. Each beach has its own unique charm, some of the most popular ones to visit are: Meia Praia and Praia do Amado. Praia do Amado is one of the top surfing spots in Europe.

8 Obidos Declared a national monument
Known as the “Wedding Present Town” One of Europe’s most romantic medieval villages The town of Obidos is located on a hilltop, encircled by a fortified wall. It remains a well-preserved example of medieval architecture; its streets, squares, walls and its castle are a popular tourist destination. The entire town has been declared a national monument. The picturesque cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses, gothic doorways and windows, whitewashed churches- all of which is encircled by the walls of the 12th century castle makes it one of Europe’s most romantic medieval villages.

9 Sintra Sintra has many mystical hills that are full of fairy-tale palaces and extravagant villas. The city is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. In main square is the National Palace, dating from the 14th century, are two gigantic conical chimneys, which are the town’s most recognizable landmarks. The mystical Pena Park surrounds the palace, it is filled with a variety of trees and exotic plants from the former colonies of the Portuguese empire, ponds, fountains, and black swans.

11 What is Portugal Known For?
Portugal throughout the world is known for having some very loyal and die heart fans of their beloved soccer team (30%). People also know that Portugal has some of the most beautiful beaches throughout the world and that there are so many beautiful historic monuments throughout the entire country. The Portuguese are also known for their love of wine.

12 Soccer Cristiano Ronaldo Portugal loves their soccer, especially star player Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo is the captain for the Portuguese national football team and is well-known throughout the entire world as being one of the best soccer players. There is no greater pride for the Portuguese than to put on a Portugal jersey and cheer their team on during the FIFA World Cup.
