12 Personal Insight Questions
Freshman applicants must respond to four short-answer prompts chosen from eight options. There is no advantage or disadvantage to choosing certain prompts over others Each response is limited to a maximum of 350 words Stay within the word limit as closely as you can. The UC’s are looking for evidence of your intellectual curiosity and your interest in personal development. Personal statements should offer an understanding of you as a unique individual within the context of your family, school, community, and world. Adds clarity, richness, and meaning to your application and clarifies the distinctions between you and applicants with similar academic records. It is a forum to explain how factors outside of your school environment have enhanced or impeded your situation. Your responses to four personal insight questions are an important component of your freshman or transfer application for admission and scholarships. Your test scores and grades show us what you have achieved academically; your responses to the prompts allow us to get to know you as an individual through your experiences and accomplishments.

13 UC Personal insight questions
Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time? Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom. What have you done to make your school or your community a better place? Beyond what has already been shared in your application, what do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for admissions to the University of California?
