2 Water Everywhere Hurricane Harvey was the wettest hurricane on record to hit the US. Some reports show that the hurricane dumped 27 trillion tons of water on Texas. Some areas received over 40 inches of rainfall, which is taller than a classroom desk.

3 A Dangerous Path Harvey made landfall in the US when it hit Rockport, Texas, on August 25th It devastated the coastline of the state before going back into the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Harvey weakened over land, but gained strength over the water. Even after it had already caused damage, Hurricane Harvey returned to bring more rain and strong winds to the US, including the state of Louisiana.

4 Wide Impact Tens of thousands of people were forced to flee their homes as Hurricane Harvey caused widespread flooding. Homes and buildings were destroyed in the storm, and streets of houses saw flood waters rise. Hurricane Harvey's impact was also felt away from the land. Out in the ocean, oil rigs suffered damage, causing gas shortages and prices to rise all over the country.

5 Picking Up the Pieces Governments and organizations have promised several million dollars to towns devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Communities have also worked together to support people who have been affected. You can discuss with your classmates, teachers and parents how you could help in the relief effort.
