18 AGILE LIG Meeting Topic Agile Portfolio Management and Visibility Across the Organization DATE/TIME: 8 August 7:00 PM COST: Early Registration: $5 APMI Members; $10 non-APMI Members @ Door: $10 (ALL) LOCATION: Geekdom, 112 E. Pecan St (Weston Centre), 11th Floor, San Antonio, TX (free parking in the building parking garage) Abstract There is a consistent struggle in organizations with bridging the gap between the execution of Agile teams with business/portfolio strategy. While adopting Agile practices increases development speed, predictability and quality, the faster pace exposes new challenges for the business. It is challenging for organizations to embrace this change that is not only process related, but also cultural. Development teams must plan their sprints and releases to stay aligned with an ever changing strategic roadmap. A roadmap led by product owners, execs and other key stakeholders attempting to adjust priorities and resources to steer programs in the most profitable direction. Speaker & Bio Kristen Lawrence is a Principal Consultant at Rally Software.  She joined Rally in 2009 with over 16 years in the ALM space.  She holds certifications as a Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Product Owner, while also earning her certification from the Scaled Agile Academy on the SAFe Framework.   She has helped large organizations solve problems with technology by using Agile and Lean practices.

26 “Agile Testing in the real world”
Tonight’s Speaker Rex Black “Agile Testing in the real world” Lots of organizations are adapting Agile. Some of these organizations are finding practical ways to integrate testing into Agile lifecycles. In this presentation, Rex will address challenges and opportunities associated with Agile, different ways of adapting Agile lifecycles and the testing within those lifecycles, an how Agile Differs from Traditional Lifecycles. We’ll examine tools and metrics for Agile projects. We’ll address whether Agile can be used for outsourced projects. We’ll look at different options for organizing test teams on Agile projects, and why only some of these options can work. Rex will offer his thoughts on Agile and quality, and what skills and personalities work best in Agile projects. In this free seminar, Rex will discuss these points and more, giving you a better shot at Agile testing success.

27 1-Day Seminar – August 1st, 2013
Risk Based Testing By Rex Black (President, RBCS, Inc.) Risk is the possibility of a negative or undesirable outcome or event. Testing is concerned with two main types of risks: (1) Product or quality risks, which are problems that can potentially affect the quality of the product itself. (2) Project or planning risks, which are problems that can potentially affect overall project success. Not all risks are equal and there are a number of ways to assess the level of risk.
So, how can we identify risks, assess their level, implement appropriate tests and other controls, and report test results based on risk? This course will show attendees how to do so. We’ll look at quality risks and quality risk categories. We’ll talk about how to identify risk items and assess their level of risk. We’ll look at how risk based testing adapts to various software development lifecycle models, how project risks can affect testing, and metrics we can use during risk based testing. The course illustrates important concepts with examples, a case study, and realistic, hands-on exercises. With thirty years of software and systems engineering experience, Rex Black is President of RBCS ( a leader in software, hardware, and systems testing. For almost twenty years, RBCS has delivered consulting, outsourcing and training services in the areas of software, hardware, and systems testing and quality. Employing the industry’s most experienced and recognized consultants, RBCS conducts product testing, builds and improves testing groups, and provides testing staff for hundreds of clients worldwide. Ranging from Fortune 20 companies to start-ups, RBCS clients save time and money through higher quality, improved product development, decreased tech support calls, improved reputation, and more.  As the leader of RBCS, Rex is the most prolific author practicing in the field of software testing today.  He has written over fifty articles, presented hundreds of papers, workshops, and seminars, and given about fifty keynotes and other speeches at conferences and events around the world. Rex is the past President of the International Software Testing Qualifications Board and of the American Software Testing Qualifications Board.
