1 Revealing Messiah in the Passover

2 מִקְרָאֵ Miqra PASSOVER: A REHEARSAL FOR WHAT ?
Lev 23:4 These are the feasts of יהוה, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. Convocation: H4744 מקרא miqrâ' mik-raw‘ From H7121; something called out, that is, a public meeting (the act, the persons, or the place); also a rehearsal: PASSOVER: A REHEARSAL FOR WHAT ?

3 Passover is all about Redemption & Deliverance
How the original Passover and the Passover Seder point to Messiah Yahshua. Identifying Messiah in the Passover Seder Afikomen Shankbone Last week of Yahshua / week of original Passover Does Yahshua Qualify as the ‘Passover Lamb’?

4 The Afikomen

5 Afikomen A special piece of Matzah that is broken and hidden.
Today, Afikomen is a Greek word which can mean “I came”. During Yahshua’s day, the Greek word was called Afikomenos meaning “he is coming” (Messianic overtones) The middle piece of Matzah (Afikomen) is broken in half. Just as the middle piece is broken, Messiah was also broken One half is now called the ‘Afikomen’ – the dessert (as it is called today), it is wrapped in a white cloth just as Messiah’s body was wrapped for burial.

6 Afikomen The Leader of the Seder would hide the Afikomen- Messiah was also placed in a tomb hidden for a time The Afikomen would return later in the Seder, so the sinless Messiah rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and he will return for his bride. From a historical standpoint, this word has direct Messianic implications, during the time of the 2nd Temple period, the Afikomen was a symbol of the expected Messiah. 7 The Passover ‘Shankbone’

8 The Shankbone In the Passover Seder, the Shankbone commemorates the Lamb that was slain during the original Passover in Egypt. This shankbone is also called the ‘Zeroah’; and because of this, the Passover Lamb is equated to the ‘Zeroah’ According to Torah, the Passover Lamb had to be a male of the first year. The Passover Lamb had to be perfect, without blemish. The blood of the Passover Lamb was needed to prevent the destroyer from killing the ‘first-born’ among Israel.

9 Zeroah (Shank Bone of the Lamb)
זְרֹועַ Zeroah H2220 meaning ‘arm (as a symbol of strength)’ Isaiah 53:1-6 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm (‘zeroah’) of Yahweh revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of Elohim, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Yahweh hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

10 READ: Exodus 6:6, Deuteronomy 26:8, John 12:38 (Arm).
The Zeroah Isaiah 53:1… the question: “…to whom is the arm (Zeroah) of Yahweh revealed? From this question we understand that the ‘Zeroah’ is not readily seen or comprehended, unless it is ‘revealed’- unless the Spirit of Yahweh reveals its identity. Let’s summarize: The ZEROAH is the ‘He’ who was wounded because of our transgressions of Torah (Isa 53:5) The ZEROAH is the ‘He’ by whose stripes/wounds, we are healed (Isa 53:5) The ZEROAH is the ‘Him’ upon whom Yahweh has laid the iniquity of us all (Isa 53:6) The ZEROAH is the unblemished Lamb slain at Passover The Zeroah is the Messiah, according to the sages of old. READ: Exodus 6:6, Deuteronomy 26:8, John 12:38 (Arm).

11 Parallels of Messiah and of the Pesach Lamb
Passover Lamb would be selected from Beit Lechem Messiah ‘born’ in Beit Lechem Lamb would be perfect…unblemished Messiah was perfect and without sin Lamb would be inspected for 4 days Messiah inspected for 4 days No bones of the Passover lamb were to be broken Messiah’s bones were not broken During Passover a sign was hung around the neck of the Lambs naming the owner of the lamb. Yeshua was crucified with a sign hanging over His head with the name of His Father.

12 Last week of Yahshua ‘Timeline’
Israelites crossed Sea of Suf beginning in evening Early A.M. Egyptian army enters sea. At daybreak, army perishes in the sea Passover Lambs brought in homes Exodus 12:3 Passover Lambs Killed Exodus 12:6 Pesach Lambs Inspected 4 days Unleavened Bread Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun Unleavened Bread Yahshua Inspected 4 days Early A.M. Yahshua talks with Miriam in ‘The Garden’ before ascending to the Father with His 1st Fruits offering Yahshua enters Jerusalem, Cohen HaGadol brings a lamb into Jerusalem Yahshua Crucified Yahshua ‘raised’ from the dead towards the end of Shabbat- Yahshua ‘Lord of the Sabbath’ ’14’ Represents “Salvation” ’18’ Represents “Life” 18th “First Fruits”

13 Just as Jonah… Was three days and three nights in the belly of the fish, so must the Son of man be in the grave for three days and three nights. Messiah crucified Wednesday after 12 pm. At the same time when the High Priest in the Temple finished the last Passover lamb sacrifice and sacrificed the Tameed (continual) burnt offering, Yahshua cried out ‘it is finished’ and gave up the Holy Spirit. Messiah was buried by Joseph of Aremathiah and Nicodemus and was in the grave before sundown, the beginning of the 15th Aviv (Nisan). Could this allude to Leviticus (about celebrating Passover the next month)? [unclean due to dead body- ashes of the red heifer on 3rd & 7th day]

14 Probable Location of Crucifixion
Very close to ‘Dominus Flevit’ church “The Lord has wept”

15 Was the ‘Last Supper’ the Passover Seder?
‘Last Supper’ with his disciples –Tuesday Evening A ‘Renewed Covenant’ Meal Crucifixion on a Wednesday after 12pm Date he came in to Jerusalem – Shabbat Inspected 4 days with final inspections: Caiphas, Pilate... During ‘Last Supper’ – Disciples thinking that Judas went to buy something (shops would not be open to buy/sell if it was Passover/ 1st day Unleavened Bread) Yahshua told disciples to ‘buy a sword’ This ‘Last Supper’ was a ‘renewed covenant’ meal Luke 22:20 “This cup is the renewed (new) covenant (testament) in my blood, which is shed for you.”

16 Passover This is the festival of Passover given in Scripture, and the festival that Yahshua kept every year. The final year of His ministry, when He was going to be unable to keep the Passover on the true date because of an appointment with death that had been given Him by the Father, He presented the Passover (or, last supper) to his disciples a day early and revealed the upcoming events. He did not intend this to set any precedent, since the Torah already clearly had given instructions on what the Father wanted. If Yahshua was habitually keeping Passover one day early, He could not have been the perfect lamb that was to be offered, because He would no longer be perfect, however, He didn’t keep the Passover His final year because He was the Passover lamb. He didn’t have the opportunity to keep it that year because He was in the grave. [Paraphrased from Frank Houtz’s Book “Date With the Lamb”]

17 Why did Messiah have to die ?
Numbers 15:27-28 Unintentional Sin: Could be forgiven/ atoned for Offering of a 1 year old she goat brought to the priest Numbers 15:30-31 Intentional Sin: Could not be forgiven You were ‘cut off’ (destroyed) from the people Habakkuk 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. (also in Heb 10:38) Israel entered into a blood covenant with the Almighty at Mt. Sinai (Ex 24:3-8). Israel broke the blood covenant, thereby incurring the death penalty. Yeshua died in the place of the guilty party (us), the covenant can be renewed with the guilty, but now justified party (READ Acts 13:38-39) [ANE blood cov.] Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

18 How can Messiah make the claim that he is the ‘door’ (John 10:7-9) and that he is ‘the way, the truth, and the life’ and that nobody comes to the Father but through him (John 14:6)? The blood of the Passover lamb was applied from the ‘basin’ with hyssop onto the ‘lintel’ and ‘side posts’ (Exo 12:22) and when יהוה sees the blood will not let the destroyer enter in. ‘Basin’: H5592 סף saf : Can mean threshold, sill, door-keeper ‘Lintel’: H4947 משׁקוף mashqôph comes from H8259 shaqaph meaning “to overlook, to look down or out” ‘Side Posts’: H מזוּזהmezûzâh

19

20 The sign ‘ ת ' (Paleo Hebrew Letter ‘Tav’ meaning ‘mark / sign”)
The blood of the Passover lamb was applied from the basin onto the lintel and the door posts, Exo 12:22. Yahshua’s blood was on the ‘lintel’ of the tree (head) and on the sides of the tree (hands) and on the ground below (basin/ threshold).

21 Yahshua is the DOOR ! Yahshua’s blood is on the lintel, it is on the side posts, it is on the threshold. His blood is on the door of his Father’s House.. Someone Read John 14:1-6 Yahshua said “…nobody comes to the Father but through him.” Yahshua has been given authority from the Father (John 5:27, 1 Corinthians 15:24-28) Just as the blood of the Passover Lamb redeemed the first-born of Israel, Yahshua (the Passover Lamb who was slain)- his blood redeemed those who believe in Him! Luk 13:24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

22 Why did Yahshua have to die on Pesach? Why not Yom Kippur?
Passover is all about ‘deliverance’ and ‘redemption’ of the ‘first-born’ In the Exodus account, those who obeyed the command of Yahweh to put blood on the lintel and doorposts prevented the destroyer from killing the first-born. The Exodus Passover was a sign to something even greater… That Messiah would be the Passover Lamb to Redeem the whole house of Israel! How does ‘Israel’ fit into this?

23 Do you claim to be Israel?
Exodus 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith Yahweh, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: Yahshua is the only begotten Son: John 3:16 For Yahweh so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Yahshua (the only begotten Son of the Father) died (to destroy the penalty for sin) so that ISRAEL (Yahweh’s Firstborn – Exodus 4:22) might live (Eternal Life) ! Yahshua came to ‘REDEEM’ ISRAEL. You need to ‘repent’ [Luke 13:3], be ‘baptised’ and be ‘born again’ [John 3:3,7; 1 Pet 1:23] and ‘grafted in to Israel’ (The Olive tree) [Romans 11].

24 ‘Pasach’ = meaning to hop/ or choose
Pesach (H6453) comes from the Hebrew word ‘Pasach’ (H6452) and can mean to ‘hop’ like a bird that would ‘hop back and forth from one tree to another’. 1 Kings 18:21 Elijah asks the people to choose today who to serve… baal or the True Elohim of Israel. Stop hopping from one god to another. During the original Passover (Pesach), the Israelites had a choice to follow the instructions of the Lord and sacrifice a lamb and apply the blood to their doorway… In the same manner, Pilate asks the people to choose who to release- Barabbas or Yahshua. Let us make this year a time to choose Messiah Yahshua, our ‘Redeemer’, High Priest, and coming King !

25 Final Thoughts 1Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Messiah our Passover is sacrificed for us: Rom 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in Elohim through our Master Messiah Yahshua, by whom we have now received the atonement. 1Pe 1: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Messiah, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Rev 1:5 And from Messiah Yahshua, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

26 Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Yahshua the Messiah once for all. Heb 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Heb 12:24 “And to Yahshua the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things...”

27 The first covenant dedicated with blood- so too this better covenant dedicated with blood
Heb 9: “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” “(YLT) And because of this, of a new covenant he is mediator, that, death having come, for redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, those called may receive the promise of the age-during inheritance, for where a covenant is, the death of the covenant-victim to come in is necessary, for a covenant over dead victims is stedfast, since it is no force at all when the covenant-victim liveth,”

28 EXTRA: Should we ‘Observe’ Passover and Unleavened Bread Today?
These Feasts are found throughout scripture: Leviticus 23:4-44, Deuteronomy 16:1-16, Exodus 23:14-19, Num 29:1,7,12,and 35. These feasts are recorded in scripture showing that the Israelites observed them: Joshua 5:10-11, 2 Kings 23:21-23, 2 Chronicles 30:15-21, Ezra 6:19-22, etc. Our Messiah, Yahshua of Nazareth, observed these Feasts. The gospels show Messiah Yahshua celebrated Passover {Luke 2:41-42, John 2:23}, and Tabernacles {John 7:2}, and most importantly, OUR MESSIAH WAS THE PASSOVER SACRIFICE!

29 Should we ‘Observe’ Passover and Unleavened Bread Today?
Yahshua also said: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:17-18) God said that His feasts were to be celebrated forever (Leviticus 23)! God does not change (Malachi 3:6) and therefore He still desires for us to worship him through love and obedience.

30 Should we ‘Observe’ Passover and Unleavened Bread Today?
Even though the temple is not standing in Jerusalem, we are to be a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) to The LORD through love and obedience to Him and to His word. According to our Heavenly Father, keeping the Feasts are important! He says that they are to be a perpetual statute FOREVER throughout your generations. By keeping the Passover and unleavened bread, we remember the story of the Exodus and how the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt (Deuteronomy 16:3 – the “bread of affliction” and coming out of Egypt “in haste”). We should also look at Passover and unleavened bread as how The LORD brought each one of us up out of our own slavery to sin through the shed blood of Messiah Yahshua into His glorious light!

31 Should we ‘Observe’ Passover and Unleavened Bread Today?
Observing these Feasts is a dress rehearsal for us (as the bride) while we wait for the return of our “bridegroom”, Messiah Yahshua! It is also recorded in scripture that in the future we will still be honoring Yahweh’s feast days: (See Zechariah Chapter 14 and Ezekiel Chapter 45). One important point to remember is that these “Feasts” were and are “The Feasts of The LORD”. They are not just “Jewish feasts” for only the Jewish people as ALL people who identify with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are instructed to keep these Feast days, and Holy convocations!

32 Should we ‘Observe’ Passover and Unleavened Bread Today?
“One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance forever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD. One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.” (Numbers 15:15-16) “Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 24:22) “One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.” (Exodus 12:49)

33 Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread
(1) Were and are to be observed and celebrated “Forever”, (2) Messiah Yahshua, His Disciples, and early believers continued to observe and keep Passover & Unleavened Bread well after the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed (3) Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread reveal His Prophetic plan for mankind –redemption and salvation through His Son, Messiah Yahshua (4) Even though the Temple is not standing, His Feasts are not done away with- we can still draw near and be a living sacrifice to Him (Romans 12:1), (5) The LORD’s Feasts are not only for the Jewish people but for all those who desire to follow Him and His word.

34 Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread
1Co 11:24 And when he (Yahshua) had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 1Co 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
