6 Nominating Procedures
Schedule the election for the April/May meeting so you can submit all of the paperwork to Department by first week of June. Form a nominating committee of an odd number of members and typically Past Commanders/Officers. Nominating Committee reports to the assembly of their nominees, and then nominations are allowed from the floor. Typical is to allow three months for nominations. Nominations do not need to be seconded. Nominations are closed by a two-thirds vote or unanimous consent. Nominations to multiple offices is allowed unless limited locally.

7 Elections by Ballot or Voice
Majority vote is necessary for election unless CBL state otherwise. Plurality never elects unless specified in special bylaws. A person ineligible to hold office at time of election cannot be elected, even by a unanimous vote. Election is either by voice or by ballot. No one person should ever cast the ballot of the assembly. If only one person is running, a unanimous consent voice suffices. A ballot vote is a secret vote and each voter must cast their own ballot

8 Assumption of Duties of Office
Typical to take office at the first business meeting after the elections. Not out of order to take office on the same day as the election and immediately after the vote is announced. The short or long form Installation of Officers is used. The installing officer should be from District or Department. Outgoing officers are responsible for a smooth transition. Good time to review the Post CBL with all new and returning officers. Certify Post officers with Department IMMEDIATELY!

9 Wrap Up Follow the procedures in your CBL. Always fair.
Be transparent. Get advice from County, District, and Department. Have two or three experts (past officers) for consistency. Questions?

10 Have a Great Conference and 2017: Be Quota!
