3. Loving Nature of the Newfoundland
When many people see the large size of the Newfoundland, they immediately see a dangerous predator. However, the Newfoundland is one of the gentlest dog breeds, earning the nickname “ the nanny dog”. As a matter of fact, in the original “Peter Pan”, the dog Nana was a Newfoundland, or “Neffie” as they are commonly referred to.

4. Why I Would Choose the Newfoundland
The Newfoundland’s large amount of fur can keep nearly anything warm, especially in Winter.
Newfoundland's are used as lifeguards, and have saved countless amounts of drowning lives.
The Newfoundland is the only dog breed to have webbed feet, allowing tem to swim easily.
The Newfoundland is bred to be loving and protecting.
Newfoundland's love attention, anything from laying next to them to stroking their fur.

5. Famous Newfoundland's
Seaman- Seaman was a large Newfoundland dog who helped the Westward Expansion! Purchased by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, he warned their expedition of nearby snakes, wolves, and buffalo. Seaman also helped create peace with tribes of Native Americans. When Lewis and Clark met with Native elders, Seaman would ply with Native children, showing the Natives that the group of whites were not the cruel murderers that they had herd stories of.
Hairy-Man- Hairy-Man was a Newfoundland dog who helped save over 160 lives! When a large ship near his home in Canada started to sink, he and his master immediately went to the site of the disaster and saved survivors.

7. My Newfoundland
The main reason why the Newfoundland is my favorite breed is that I have one of my own! Ginger, shown to the left, has been a member of my family for 6 long years. Together we have gone through illness and happy times, showing me the love and determination of the Newfoundland breed.
