2. Guidelines for Storage
Access storage needs by deciding:
1.what needs to be stored
2.where it needs to be stored.
3. Analyze existing storage to determine how it can be maximized.
Ex add shelf or hooks

3. Storage can be:
open (visible/shelves)
closed (hidden/behind doors or in drawers).

4. Storage can be built-in: which is attached to walls and can not be moved.

5. Use Adjustable shelves.

6. Modular storage(storage with different parts that can fit together in different ways).

7. Portable/ mobile storage can be moved. Ex
Portable/ mobile storage can be moved. Ex. Rolling carts, shoe racks that can be moved

8. Common-use- storage is used by all/most members of the home
Common-use- storage is used by all/most members of the home. Linen closet, kitchen cabinets, armoire in living room
Items that are visible are easier to find.

9. Vertical storage= doors & walls
ex: hooks to hang mops, sports equipment, outdoor/lawn equipment.

10. Arranging items
Arrange items according to frequency –of- use. ( how often they are used)
Arrange commonly used items in locations that are within reach (accessible) to everyone.

11. Consider safety, put medicines, cleaning products & other poisons out of reach of children.
Label the containers and keep a list of what is where.

12. Cleaning Schedule for time management and people
Daily: make bed, wash dishes, wipe counters, sweep floor
Weekly: change bed linens, laundry, clean bathroom, vacuum/dust, mop kitchen/bath
Monthly: clean refrigerator, range, kitchen shelves, vacuum furniture and drapes/blinds
Semi-annual: clean closets, wash all bedding, wash walls, clean baseboards

13. Basic Cleaning Rules
1. Check to see if your products can be used for more than one purpose.
2. Check labels to see if toxic, poisonous, or flammable
3. Check to see if product will harm a surface. Not all products are safe for all surfaces
4. Follow directions of the product
5. NEVER MIX PRODUCTS
6. Store away from children and pets
7. Wear protective gloves

14. Cleaning Tools 2 main Types of cleaning tools
1. Tools that remove loose dirt and dust
Dust mop, broom, vacuum cleaner, dusting cloth
2. Tools that remove soil stuck to surfaces
Sponges, pails, wet mop, toilet bowl brush, stepladder/stool
