1 What is the Internaional space station and who is tim peake?
By Isabelle Drinkwater

2 Where is the international space station?
The International Space Station (ISS) is orbiting around our earth right now. Britain’s very own astronaut Tim Peake is going to be the first ever British astronaut to go up to the International Space Station and live there where he will be working as a scientist for six months.

3 Who is there right now? America’s Scott J.Kelly lives on the ISS. He is the Captain on the ISS. He was born on the 21st February 1964, in Orange, New Jersey. He also has two children. Ukraine’s Sergey Volkov lives on the ISS. He was born on the 1st April 1973 in Chuguyev, Kharkov Region, Ukraine. He is married to Natalia Volkova ( Shinkarenvo). They have one son. Russia’s Mikhail Kornienko lives on the ISS. He was born on the 15th April 1960, in Syzran, Kuibyshev region, Russia. He married Irina Anatolievna Kornienko ( Savostina) and had a daughter called Natalia. America’s Kjell N. Lindgren lives on the ISS. He was born Taipei, Taiwan. He is married to the former Kristina Jones and they have three children.

4 Russia’s Oleg Konenko lives on the ISS
Russia’s Oleg Konenko lives on the ISS. He was born on the 21st June, 1964 in Chardzhow, Turkmenia. He is married to Tatiana Mikhailovna Konenko, they have two children. Japan’s Kimiya Yui also lives on the ISS. He was born in 1970, in Nagano. He was certified as a ISS astronaut in July,2011. Britain’s Timothy Peake is going to be joining them soon!

5 What are the main jobs of the astronauts aboard the ISS?
The astronauts aboard the ISS do a lot of things what keep them busy. They do science experiments and they have to make sure everything is up to standards like: cleaning, checking the equipment and fix anything what is broken. They also have to exercise for two hours to stay fit and keep their bones and muscles strong. Sometimes the astronauts do a spacewalk so that is very dangerous and is hard work for them. The spacewalks ( EVA) are to help the ISS to stay up and running.

6 How long do they stay on the ISS?
The astronauts stay up on the ISS for about six months at a time.

7 How do you feel knowing that there are people above you in space?
It’s crazy that a large amount of people can send someone into space. They build the space shuttle, train the astronauts and so many other things. People have worked so hard to send someone in to an advanced technology station. The astronauts are also working very hard in the International Space Station what is very tricky up there. Not only people who help to send astronauts into space, technology does. These days we have advanced technology that make it easier to get into space. It is incredible.

8 Timothy Nigel Peake Timothy Nigel Peake ( Tim Peake) is the first ever British astronaut to go up to the International Space Station to go to live and work as a scientist for six months. Early life- Tim was on the 7th April 1972 in Chister, West Sussex. Tim went to school at the Chister High School for Boys where he left in 1990 to attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Military and Aeronautical career- after joining the military he graduated in 1992 to serve the Royal Green Jackets as a platoon Commander. In 1994, Tim became a qualified helicopter pilot and in 1998 he became a qualified flight instructor. He was awarded the Westlands Trophy for the best rotary wing student and he graduated from the Empire Test Pilots School. Tim left the army in 2009 after 17 years of service.

9 Astronautical- Tim beat over 8,000 other people for one of six places on the ESA’s new astronaut training programme. Tims success of getting the job is that he will be going to the International Space Station on the 15th December 2015. Tim has two children and he likes to: climbing, caving, cross country running and triathlon.
