Making a Digital Story on WeVideo.com
English 9A, Dodge

First step: Mark “breaks” on narrative/essay
Read through the final draft of your personal narrative Every time the scene changes or the story shifts, make a * symbol to show that the images in your video should change as well. Mrs. Alexander’s Example: * Cake was always what I looked most forward to about birthday parties. Little did I know that Uncle Gordon’s 82nd birthday would raise my expectations. * Yes, she brought CHOCOLATE this year, I thought as my aunt opened the white, cardboard cake box. After singing Happy Birthday, * my mother began to cut and serve the anticipated dessert. Just as I was about to receive my slice, * in shuffled Lizzie, a long-time resident of Woodhaven Retirement Community. “Hi Lizzie. How are you?” my cousin Brian asked. “Fine,” Lizzie said frankly, all wrapped up in a cream sweater. * “Want a piece of cake?,” I asked.

Second step: Create a storyboard
Using the storyboard template provided, create a storyboard to decide what visuals will be used; don’t forget to note where you plan to get them Make notes above each picture showing which portion of the narrative is going to be used with each photo/video Mrs. Alexander’s example:

Third step: Locate and/or scan visuals
If you have personal photos/videos you can use in your video, yourself all visuals for easy access If you need to find visuals to use by searching Google images, you must set your search settings for images “Labeled for Reuse”, and you MUST cite each photo you use
5
Fourth step: Record your audio
Record yourself reading your narrative/essay You can do this on your phone or directly on WeVideo if the computer you’re using has a built in microphone If you record on your phone, yourself the audio file for easy access
