4 Many reasons to build one
BP should sell the writer/reader on the business: Writer: so that you can go out and do it, Reader: to invest in it Confidence of knowing the issues Improve chances of success

5 Principles of BP No right way: plans can differ.
Be creative but set a limit. Focus. Captures energy and personality of business leader. Include negatives and issues. Spend some time on it. I-N-T-E-R-N-E-T……search and found it!!!!

7 Executive Summary This is an important section of the plan because it should provide a concise overview of the complete plan. Often a lender or prospective investor may read only this section and the financial plan. This section should be written only after the rest of the plan is finished.

Mission and goals of the business Description of products/services Why will this business be successful? What is the growth potential? What is your “competitive advantage”?

14 Product/Services Analysis
Describe the products and services you sell and the benefits they provide to your customers. Successful business owners know what their customers want or expect from them. Describe your strategies to build customer satisfaction and loyalty. Include what features you offer that set your products or services apart from the competition. How INOVATIVE are you?

15 P/S Analysis: Technology Based
Management team: people who fund other people value management skills above “ideas” Risk factors: shows that you know what could go wrong and plan to avert it Marketing plan: if this is “innovative” how are you going to get people to use it

17 Management Plan Who will manage the business?
What qualifications do they have? Describe strengths/weaknesses of the management team What legal format will be used? Describe your accounting and recordkeeping system What consultants or specialists will you need? How will you use them?

Define the market (who buys and why?) How is the market segmented? How large is the market? Identify your target markets Describe customer buying practices Describe market trends and growth potential

19 Market Plan & Marketing Analysis
What are your marketing objectives? How will you position your business in the market? Describe your pricing strategy How will you advertise and promote your products/services? What channels of distribution will be used for your products/services? What is your marketing budget?

20 Financial Plan Provide a detailed list of start-up costs
What is your break-even volume? Provide pro forma (projected) financial statements for first three years: Income statement (profit & loss) Cash flow statement Balance sheet Explain all assumptions used in developing financial projections Identify potential sources of financing

21 Operation Plan Describe your production and/or service delivery methods Describe your facilities, capital equipment and technology requirements How many employees will you need? What will they do and how much will they be paid? Who are your suppliers and contractors? Identify fixed and variable costs of production/service delivery Describe your quality control methods

22 Timeline What is the timeline (key activities and target dates) for start-up? Describe key objectives and the schedule for their accomplishment

23 Critical Risk What potential problems could arise?
How likely are they to occur? How do you plan to manage or overcome these problems?

24 Apendix This section should include all supporting documentation such as resumés, market statistics, drawings, contracts, advertisements, price quotes, magazine articles, etc. Don’t “clutter up” the main text of the business plan with these items. They should be referenced in the text and placed here.

25 Packaging the Plan It is a ”living” document
No right/wrong way: the need of reader is essential What are the challenges/ questions that can be raised by reader: answer these.
