Most Important Accomplishment: First recognized teacher of physical education in the US in 1825, came to New York from Germany in 1824 Developed a program of German gymnastics at Round Hill School in Massachusetts

4 Interesting Facts Became a teacher of literature at Harvard University
Established 1st gymnasium in the US His gymnasium hosted the 1st school gymnastics program in the country

5 Philosophy Beck believed in the gymnastic philosophy
The gymnastic philosophy basically says that a strong state could only develop from the education students get from participating in gymnastics

6 Philosophy Continued I agree in the sense that it could help students become more well rounded, and stay out of trouble I don’t think that it is the only way to develop a strong state, but I do think that it would help.
