2 Wales (Cymru) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain, bordered by England to its east and the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea to its west.

3 The capital city of Wales is Cardiff. Its population is 348,493 people.
Cardiff is the largest city in Wales and the ninth largest city in the United Kingdom.

4 Welsh national flag - The Red Dragon (or in Welsh Y Ddraig Goch) - was granted official status in 1959, but the dragon itself has been associated with Wales for centuries. Some say it’s the oldest national flag still in use, and that it was used by King Arthur and other ancient Celtic leaders.

5 People speak English in Wales
People speak English in Wales. It’s spoken fluently by around half a million people in Wales, that’s about 19% of the population. It’s called Cymraeg.

6 On 1 March each year Welsh people celebrate their patron Saint, Dewi Sant or St David who died on that day in 589AD.
