1 Los números

2 You might already know these numbers….
0 cero 1 uno 2 dos 3 tres cuatro cinco seis siete ocho nueve diez

3 I know you know them in order, but do you know them out of order too?
5 2 4 9 8 1 3 6 10 7

4 Next….the “teens”…. 11 once 12 doce 13 trece catorce 15 quince

5 Now you are going to start to see a pattern…
16 to 19 and 21 to 29 can also be spelled as 3 words. For example, 16 in Spanish can be written: diez y seis (literally 10 and 6) or it can be written as one word, but is pronounced the same. dieciséis

6 17 diecisiete 18 dieciocho diecinueve veinte

7 21 veintiuno 22 veintidós 23 veintitrés 24 veinticuatro 25 veinticinco 26 veintiséis 27 veintisiete 28 veintiocho 29 veintinueve

8 Now the bigger numbers…
veinte treinta cuarenta cincuenta sesenta setenta ochenta noventa

9 30 to 99 follow the three word rule. These are their steps…..
Choose the number you want to begin with, i.e., cincuenta (50) Add the word “y” Finally add the smaller number i.e., seis (6) The result: cincuenta y seis (56)

10 Let’s practice…. 33 treinta y tres 58 cincuenta y ocho 76
setenta y seis 98 noventa y ocho

11 Now it’s your turn…. With the person next to you, write down three double digit numbers and have your partner try to tell you what they are in Spanish. Once they are finished, it is your turn to say their double digit numbers…..

12 Numbers above 100! Use ciento. Ciento is used for all numbers above 100. Try writing out a few in Spanish. 148 199 152 ciento cuarenta y ocho=148 ciento noventa y nueve=199 ciento cincuenta y dos=152
