1 Linden Heritage Plaza Project
Connecting our past with our future

2 Linden Heritage Plaza Project goals
Honor individuals significant to the history of Linden Golf and Country Club Provide information and education about the colorful history of our course Allow members and their families ways to commemorate and memorialize the lives of loved ones Create a meaningful gathering place for important Linden events

3 From Aaron Aiken we learned that ….
Linden was designed by popular English golf course architect, Francis James. The course was sculpted using several teams of horses hitched to a graders and Johnson bars organized by the father of Aaron Aiken. Our second club professional, Davey Craig, was from St. Andrews, Scotland and was an excellent teacher of golf. The first hole used to be at the 5th tee box while the 9th hole was our current number 4. Many members skipped those holes because they were considered too difficult to play. At one time river sand ran the length of the fairways between holes 7 and 8. The steep embankment on hole number 8 was cut only one time per year with a hand scythe. Most members scored in the range compared to Meadow Park’s because of it’s difficulty (45 bunkers, deep rough and swamps).

4 The Heritage Plaza will contain:
A pedestal and bust of Aaron Aiken – 34 year Linden Club Champion Three 7’ high concrete display towers allowing for up to 36 additional plaques to honor other past and future Linden greats Semi-circle benches topped by donor tiles with inscriptions Floor tiles for individual or group donor inscriptions
