11 Budget Updates

12 Budget Reserves The PTA Executive team would like to propose that we adjust the budget so that there is $10k left in reserves (money market) and that the remaining  $15k or so be incorporated into the operating budget.  Reasons why: According to the Money Matters handbook, “Reserves are surplus funds invested/saved in order to help cover the PTA’s expenditures in case something tragic happens. PTAs should plan to maintain a sufficient amount of reserves to cover their essential expenses for a full fiscal year in case of failure of one or more fundraising activities. Some PTAs have their reserve funds in savings accounts or certificates of deposits.”

13 Budget Reserves Continued
Budget items we would consider to be essential: PTA Membership Scholarship, School Grants, Getting Ready for School, Scholarship Funds, Scholarship Grants, School Assemblies, and all of the Admin expenses like communication, bank fees, etc.  (The $10k in reserves would be enough to cover this if we did have some type of tragic year when we were unable to bring in any money). We checked in with several other PTA’s and found that some hold on to less than us and the only one who held on to about $20k was Kenmore and that is because they only fundraise once every other year. From July 2015 to June 2016 – the money market increased from $25, to $25, ($25 increase)
