1. PSEO
Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level courses. With traditional PSEO, these courses are generally offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online.

2. PSEO You do NOT pay for tuition or books
You DO need to get your own transportation to your PSEO school
You will be treated as a college student by your advisor and professors-who will not know you are a high school student unless you tell them…& they probably won’t care.
You earn college credit by passing the class (*Remember when you apply to colleges they will get a copy of your PSEO transcript so the grades you receive from your PSEO school are extremely important!)
You will need to think about extracurricular involvement/the high school experience
This means if there is a problem-they want to deal with you, not your parents…they can’t call to fix things, you’re in college now.
You need to be confident that you can achieve As and Bs at the college you will be attending. Colleges will look more heavily at your PSEO grades because they are the best indicator of how you will achieve at their college. Grades are counted twice—PSEO grades are factored into your high school gpa and your college gpa. They are also usually weighted heavier in your high school gpa because they are worth more credit.
Some programs may require you get a certain grade in a class for it to count. Others, for example nursing, require you to have a certain gpa to enter their program, typically a 3.0. A student achieving Bs and Cs at Triton that then goes full-time PSEO and achieves at the same level caused their gpa to drop from a 3.0 to a 2.9—that’s a significant difference.
Extracurricular-remember that being a well-rounded candidate is also important for elite colleges and almost all scholarships. It will take extra work on your part to stay involved in high school activities-sports, clubs, dances, volunteer opportunities, etc.—but you are still a Triton student and can attend anything a typical Triton High School student can

3. PSEO Step 1: Meet eligibility criteria
RCTC: Seniors: 2.5 gpa, Juniors: 3.0 gpa
or only able to take certain classes under an AAS degree-Ms. Kreigh can help you figure this out or visit RCTC’s website:
AND score at college level reading on the Accuplacer
If you still need to meet math graduation requirements at THS, may also need to score at college level math
Riverland/DCTC: Rank in top 50% seniors/30% juniors of your class AND score at college level on Accuplacer
WSU: Jrs top 15% or 26 ACT, Srs top 25% or 25 ACT
Mankato: Jrs 3.3 gpa or 24 ACT, Srs 3.0 gpa or 21 ACT
Concordia St. Paul: 3.25 gpa, writing sample, letter Rec
UofM-TC: Admit 600, Avg gpa 3.89, App deadline 4/1
RCTC’s AAS option-I don’t recommend this unless you are only planning to take 1 class.
If you don’t qualify via the Accuplacer there’s no getting around it. You can try again the following semester.
Note that WSU and Mankato have higher gpas…in part are their classes probably tougher-yes, but they also understand what gpa students really need to be achieving at the high school level in order to be successful at the PSEO level. Of the students I have seen at Triton, typically who begin PSEO with above a 3.0 are successful, those that insist on doing it and are in the range are not.
Think about whether or not you’ve taken advantage of what Triton offers-if not, maybe it’s a better fit to take advanced classes here. You do NOT need to go full-time PSEO, and I don’t typically recommend that juniors do (lack of freedom with needing to complete so many graduation credits). You can also change your enrollment on a semester basis-increasing or decreasing.

*Typically-But you can do PSEO at any college or university that offers it—there requirements & deadlines may be a bit different

5. PSEO What Should I Do Now?
Talk to parents to determine if this is the best option for you (transportation)
Research what school fits your needs best-then start the application
Don’t feel stuck to RCTC-there are many options. The more rigorous the college, the better it will look on your app. Consider online & in person (could be just 1x week)
If you have at least a 3.5 gpa, Online College in the High School courses may be a better fit for you as well.
Want to be done with as many graduation requirements as possible. If you are planning to do PSEO it should be because you want to take classes that you don’t have the opportunity to take here…that won’t be the case if you’re having to take all of your graduation requirements here

6. Can try it and change by semester. Start slow!

No matter what, you will complete next year’s course registration as if you will be at Triton full-time.
Students must let Ms. Kreigh know by May 31st if they plan to participate in PSEO their junior or senior year.

The PSEO program is not suited for everyone, regardless of how high one's GPA might be. It is a great opportunity, but not the right opportunity for all students.
Success in college will require maturity, responsibility, self-discipline, good study habits and time management skills.
PSEO is a great opportunity, but it’s not the right opportunity for all students. You will inevitably miss out on the high school experience. Take ample time to think about this and involve your parents.
