2. About Jean Piaget
Born in 1896

He grew up in Neuchâtel.

3. His Theory Explained:
His theory is basically explained as how a child constructs a mental model of the world around them. He wanted to measure how well children could count, spell or solve problems as a way of grading their I.Q. According to Piaget, children are born with a basic mental structure on which all their knowledge and learning are stored/based. The whole goal of his theory is to explain the mechanisms and the process by which the infant then the child develops into an individual who can reason and think using hypothesis.

4. Sensorimotor Stage (Birth-2YRS)
The infant is starting to understand itself and how things work through interactions with the environment. It’s able to differentiate between itself anf other objects.

5. Preoperational Stage (2-7yRS)
They start to play pretend. They start to use their imaginations. For example, if a child doesn’t have a certain toy while playing pretend then they could take a plastic piece of bread and have that represent a turkey or ham.

6. Concrete Operations (7-11yrs)
The Child starts to think abstractly and conceptualize, creating logical structures that explain their physical experiences.

7. Formal Operations (12+)
This is the final stage. The child is starting to think similar to how an adult thinks. They start to think about the consequences of their actions. They start to understand everything a little or easier.

8. Agree or Disagree
Amber- I agree with the theory because I have 3 nieces and 2 nephews between the ages of 4-10yrs old. I’ve watched them grow up and I have definitely seen these stages in all of them
Catie: I agree because I have an older stepbrother, 7&8 when we met so ive seen the some of the second and the last stage in him as we grew up

9. Where have I seen these stages in my own life
My 4yr old niece plays pretend all the time. If she doesn’t have a certain toy she will substitute another toy in for it. (Preoperational)
When my 4yr old nephew was 5 months old he would look in the mirror at himself. He would touch the mirror thinking it was another baby. (Sensorimotor)
My 7 yr old nephew is in the concrete operational stage because he is maturing more and he is putting things together. He will think about how something happened or how something works.
