1 Deep dive into the new features and functions of SAP BW 7
Deep dive into the new features and functions of SAP BW 7.5 edition for SAP HANA Dr. Bjarne Berg COMERIT

2 What We’ll Cover Introduction
BW 7.5 on HANA Vs. BW 7.5 Edition for HANA New Modeling Features in BW 7.5 Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSO) and Composite Providers Wizards and New Query Designers Enhancements and Fixes Data Integration Options Wrap-up

3 What We’ll Cover Introduction
BW 7.5 on HANA Vs. BW 7.5 Edition for HANA New Modeling Features in BW 7.5 Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSO) and Composite Providers Wizards and New Query Designers Enhancements and Fixes Data Integration Options Wrap-up

4 There is a Difference Between BW 7.5 “Powered by” & “Edition” for HANA
BW 7.5 edition for HANA allows you to develop objects faster without having to use many of the old objects from BW 3.x and 7.0/7.3/ 7.4. This allows you to run BW in a much more simplified way and use only HANA optimized objects

5 SAP BW 7.5, ‘edition for HANA’ and ‘on HANA’
As you plan to move to SAP BW 7.5, you can still leverage the older objects, but long-term you should migrate to the new BW 7.5 edition for HANA objects

6 Why SAP BW 7.5, edition for SAP HANA
Simplified administration Faster development time Easier to maintain by having less replicated object and data Smaller HANA memory footprint Better modeling interface in Eclipse Centralized development and admin interface.

7 Getting to SAP BW 7.5, edition for HANA
For companies with BW 7.3 or 7.4 on HANA, or those who have not yet migrated to HANA, it makes sense to upgrade and migrate to BW 7.5 on HANA first, and then migrate to the new objects. For those staring with a new implementation, it makes sense to start directly with BW 7.5 Edition for HANA and only use the new simplified and faster objects

8 Moving your BW system to New BW on HANA objects
SAP is working on a tool to help you automatically transfer your legacy objects to new ADSOs and CompositeProvider (expected in SP4 around mid-2016). This tool will help you Migrate MultiProviders to CompositeProviders Data flows to the new BW HANA optimized objects Copy Objects such as InfoCubes and DSOs to ADSOs (no data) Data flow objects, DTPs and Transformations and collecting required objects to rebuild data flow from a starting object

9 What We’ll Cover Introduction
BW 7.5 on HANA Vs. BW 7.5 Edition for HANA New Modeling Features in BW 7.5 Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSO) and Composite Providers Wizards and New Query Designers Enhancements and Fixes Data Integration Options Wrap-up

10 SAP HANA and BW 7.5: Unified Modeling tool platform
SAP has spend significant time on simplifying the modeling tools in their landscape. This include tools in SAP HANA Studio, inside SAP BW and also for the ABAP development tools. All new tools are based on the Eclipse platform for simplicity and to make each tool easier to use. Since BW 7.4 there are Modeling capabilities for the new ‘Open ODS View’ and the ‘CompositeProvider’. In BW 7.5 there are many wizards to help you build the new objects step-by-step

11 BW Modeling in Eclipse These new modeling perspective for BW on HANA is very intuitive. While it is now Eclipse based, most experienced BW developers will rapidly find their way around the new interface. Most of the ‘old’ transaction codes still work in this tool

12 SAP BW WorkSpaces – Additional features in SAP BW 7.5
BW Workspaces can allow PowerUsers in the business to join IT developed data marts with their own data. In BW 7.5 Power users can also create their own hierarchies manually, through flat-file upload (i.e. from Excel), or through an existing InfoObject based hierarchy that can be modified.

13 What We’ll Cover Introduction
BW 7.5 on HANA Vs. BW 7.5 Edition for HANA New Modeling Features in BW 7.5 Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSO) and Composite Providers Wizards and New Query Designers Enhancements and Fixes Data Integration Options Wrap-up

14 Advanced DataStoreObject (ADSO) – New in SAP BW 7.4
This new ADSO can be used to merge InfoCubes and DSO into simpler data architectures, and the ADSO can have up to 120 key fields. The new table structure in ADSOs means that the management and performance of frequent data loads is also improved. In the new SAP BW 7.5 you can also combine InfoObjects and field based modeling, while leveraging SID entries can be used for query optimization In many cases you can even change the usage scenario of Advanced DataStore Objects without having to delete the data

15 Advanced DataStore Object – ADSO Wizard
There is a Wizard that can help you in building ADSOs step-by-step, as well as integrated on-line help to explain what each option means. ADSOs can be developed using templates from: DataSources InfoProviders When working with the ADSO Wizard, it is recommended that you add it to your favorites so that it is easy to locate during the development phase of your project

16 Advanced DataStore Object – New in SAP BW 7.5
New migration tool that allows you to migrate older BW objects to ADSOs ADSO support for planning and NLS Improved delta calculations for non cumulative key figures (useful for areas such as inventory and headcount and more). More dynamic tiering support for with change logs and data activation. SAP has said it is planning to add streaming options in real-time to the ADSO in the future (source: Lothar Henkes, SAP SE)

17 Enhanced CompositeProviders in SAP BW 7.4
The Enhanced CompositeProvider replaces: The old CompositeProvider, TransientProviders and VirtualProviders on HANA, as well as BW MultiProviders, and InfoSets. Since BW 7.4 on HANA you could join and union InfoProviders and HANA objects for faster data model implementations A major benefit of Enhanced CompositeProviders is that it pushes the execution of logic from application servers down to SAP HANA, which can result in dramatic performance improvements

18 Enhanced Composite provider in SAP BW 7.5
New improvement for BW 7.5 include CompositeProviders that now take advantage of the performance improvements introduced in HANA SP-10 and therefore executes faster. You can also group similar output structures for easier access. In BW 7.5 you can also convert existing CompositeProviders and BW MultiProvider automatically. SAP is working on adding the support for temporal joins in CompositeProviders. This may allow customers to completely remove the need for InfoSets

19 What We’ll Cover Introduction
BW 7.5 on HANA Vs. BW 7.5 Edition for HANA New Modeling Features in BW 7.5 Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSO) and Composite Providers Wizards and New Query Designers Enhancements and Fixes Data Integration Options Wrap-up

20 New Features in SAP BW 7.5 – Query Designer
The Query Designer is now moved completely to the Eclipse environment and there is also a new BW Workspace Query Designer for Business users.

21 New Features in SAP BW 7.5 – Query Designer in Eclipse
Most BEx query developers will find this interface easier to use and can make the transition without the need for major re-training

22 New Features in SAP BW 7.5 – Query Designer Improvements
In the new Query Designer in Eclipse developers will find that many of the options that was previously ‘hidden’ behind tabs are now much easier to access from a unified interface. The query designer is also supported by content linked on-line help from SAP

23 New BW Query Designer – Now Complete
The new BW query designer is now complete in functionality and supports all older options as well as new functionality such as: Exit variable support through ABAP Managed Database Procedures The formula editor is simplified with the If editor Ability to generate a HANA view based on a query Previously developed BEx Queries are compatible and you do not need to migrate them to a newer ‘version’. There is even a new editor for Global Key Figures, structures and filters, as well as for CKF and RKFs.

24 New Workspace Query Designer in BW 7.5
In the new Workspace Query Designer you can now let key business users upload and merge data in queries with local and BW data.. It leverages the data authorization in BW. To create SAP BW Workspaces, a business user need to have the role SAP_BW_WORKSPACE_DESIGNER assigned to them Planned for future: Planned integration into SAP BI front ends (BI Design Studio Integration, Analysis Office)

25 The Workspace Query Designer – New in BW 7.5
Users can link local and central data in a workspace using the Workspace Query Designer. You can also create BW Queries as local object and add local data to central queries. To use the Workspace Query Designer: Check that these BW Internet connection services are activated (t-code SICF): /sap/bc/ui5_ui5/sap/rsl_wqd /sap/bw/modelling Minimum Win-IE 10, Chrome or Firefox browser installed Authorization for BW Workspaces (RS_WSPAC). Check that BW Workspaces exists (t-code RSWSP) Access by the URLs: Server Host>:<Web Server Port>/sap/bw/wqd/index.html Server Host>:<Web Server Port>/sap/bw/wqd/index.html SAP is working on integration into Design Studio and Analysis Office

26 Learning fast- Using Wizards to Create New Objects
There are many Wizards in BW 7.5 that you can leverage in your initial development process These are especially useful for the new HANA based BW objects such as ADSO, CompositeProviders and OpenODSViews if you are unfamiliar with them.

27 What We’ll Cover Introduction
BW 7.5 on HANA Vs. BW 7.5 Edition for HANA New Modeling Features in BW 7.5 Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSO) and Composite Providers Wizards and New Query Designers Enhancements and Fixes Data Integration Options Wrap-up

28 Improved Search In HANA Studio you have the ability to search for BW objects, files, ABAP objects, ABAP sources and much more. You can even search by active, inactive objects, sub-objects, data created, date changed and by the different developers/users. This improved search makes it much easier to locate objects that have changed and find items inside HANA and BW. BW managers and architects can use this tool to monitor new developments and see what has changed during projects

29 New Analytics Manager Functions (formerly BI Analytical processor)
You can now use median instead of mean in exception aggregations to reduce number of outliers. reduce the importance of outliers. You can also use simple regression

30 Planning with BPC 10.1 and Integrated Planning on BW
For BPC You get a new BW 7.5 add-on and embedded modeling for financial consolidation that leverages integrated planning For Integrated Planning Measures for planning are available in BW Workspace Query Designer for business users and Fox formulas are improved. You can now use ADSOs for planning, as well as local hierarchies and local planning scenarios (i.e. for departments and business users).

31 Generate Your HANA Views (since BW 7.4)
You can push more logic away from the application server to the HANA database by using HANA views. Since SAP BW 7.4 on HANA you could generate these views automatically The HANA views can be used to join SAP and data from non-SAP applications (i.e. native development), while leveraging the Analysis Authorization security model of BW.

32 Generating Views Features New in SAP BW 7.5
Enhancements for InfoObjects Support for BW Hierarchies Support for large Attributes in master data views BW Queries has been improved New exit variables such as 0DAT, 0CWEEK, 0CMONTH, 0CQUART and 0CYEAR and support of display hierarchies New AMDP HANA exit variable New formula operator for IF  THEN  ELSE Source: Lothar Henkes, SAP SE, 2016 ADSO and CompositeProvider has been optimized for faster reading of data in NLS on IQ.

33 You can Maintain InfoObjects in Eclipse
In the new BW modeling interface you can now complete all InfoObject maintenance BW 7.5 New functionality For 0FISCPER, 0DATE you can now use time characteristics as attributes, You can now have more than 2 billion Integers values by using the new INT8 Key Figure You can also ‘pre-view’ you master data without leaving the modeling interface

34 BW 7.5 and Near-Line Storage (NLS)
NLS support has been available for InfoCubes with non-cumulative key figures in BW 7.4 since 2014. In BW 7.5 you now can: Using specific join types CompositeProviders can now use ADSOs stored on NLS. Use BW process type to create NLS DB statistics by leveraging virtual tables. Use NLS for ADSOs and also display reporting value help from NLS (note )

35 SAP BW 7.5 Dynamic Tiering - Enhanced support
Dynamic tiering of data in BW has been available since BW 7.4. This means that: Data that is infrequently used automatically gets off-loaded to disk and thereby saving memory for more important tasks. Saves memory (and money) by moving traditional write-optimized DSOs and PSAs to ‘warm’ storage. New BW 7.5 features: Data movement to dynamic tiering automatically as remodeling tasks ADSO dynamic tiring support for change logs and activations As first introduced in HANA in 2015, BW 7.5 now takes more advantage of Dynamic Tiering, thereby keeping more of low usage data in BW on disk instead of memory (costs savings).

36 What We’ll Cover Introduction
BW 7.5 on HANA Vs. BW 7.5 Edition for HANA New Modeling Features in BW 7.5 Advanced DataStore Objects (ADSO) and Composite Providers Wizards and New Query Designers Enhancements and Fixes Data Integration Options Wrap-up

37 Simplifying Source Connectivity Options
SAP BW 7.5 on HANA will consolidate connectivity options so that: Operational Data provisioning (ODP) will be used for SLT and SAP source systems. HANA Source System will be used for other file system and database connectivity While the current source system connectivity option are still available SAP is working on simplifying and consolidated HANA objects.

38 Operational Data Provisioning
You can distribute your data using OData capabilities in BW 7.5. You can even use OData for Delta data loads from ADSOs in BW 7.5 You can create access by generating a NetWeaver Gateway Service based on an Data Provider. This can be used by other SAP and non-SAP applications using standard HTTP/OData. With OData, SDI, SDA, ODBC, JDBC, DBSQL and standard SAP interfaces, SAP BW 7.5 on HANA is a truly open data platform

39 SDI and SDQ Services in EIM (available since HANA SP-09)
Smart Data Quality (SDQ) Have advanced transformations to clean up data and much faster data transformations by running natively on HANA Smart Data Integration (SDI) Supports both data transformation and data replication for any data. Modeling can be done in HANA Development Workbench and in HANA Studio

40 SAP BW 7.5 - Smart Data Integration (SDI) on HANA
New SDI features for BW Real-time streaming possible Real-time direct access, ETL and replication from traditional landscapes and the cloud. Twitter, files and OData support in SDA BW can be a source system using SDI HANA Source system in BW have unified connections to SDA, SDI and local HANA sources (see note: )

41 BW 7.5 New HANA SDI Capabilities
Replicate data in real-time using “UPSERT TABLE” that is managed by the HANA DataSource Data mapping support from source to ABAP data types using BW ETL data loads or HANA data sources in reporting. Support for delta loading in ADSOs Move raw source data to BW in original format via HANA data types OpenODSView direct access to HANA DataSource CompositeProviders and OpenODSViews access directly using SDI remote sources Real-time Data Streaming to ADSO is being developed
