2 Safeguarding Children
Safeguarding Children relates to all children up to age 18 years. Unborn children who may be at risk once they are born are also considered, however a child does not have legal rights until they are born.

3 Safeguarding is Everybody's Business
All agencies and professionals have a responsibility to: Be alert to potential indicators of abuse or neglect Be alert to the risks of harm that individual abusers, or potential abusers may pose to children Be aware of where and how to access advice and support to raise concerns

5 What is Safeguarding? Safeguarding is the promotion of the welfare of children and is defined as: Protecting children from maltreatment Preventing impairment of children’s health or development Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes Working Together 2015

6 What is Child Protection?
‘Child protection is a part of safeguarding and promoting welfare. This refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm’. Working Together, 2015

If you have concerns, discuss with your Safeguarding Lead / Deputy / Line Manager If still concerned, actions require to be taken Call the enquiry line I you still have concerns, refer to the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Tel No: Fax No: Always document your discussions and actions in the patients records

10 What is MASH? Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub
Agencies based together at Riverside House that will share information to inform decision making for referrals that are made to Social Care This is a new model of working from 1st April 2015

Level Staff Frequency of training How delivered Level 1 - Awareness Raising All Practice Staff Minimum Three yearly Induction, PLT events and In-House GP Practice PLT Level 2 All non-clinical Staff who have any contact with children, young people and/or parents/carers Minimum Three yearly Level 3 All Clinical Staff working with children, young people and/or parents/carers and who could contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating the needs of a child or young person and parent capacity where there are safeguarding/child protection concerns.
