2 The Nile River Valley The Nile River flows from south to north from mountains that are 4,000 miles away! It is the longest river in the world. It provides fertile soil in the middle of one of the World’s largest deserts. Early farmers settled along it’s edges for obvious reasons and for the same reasons that Sumerians settled in Mesopotamia.

3 The Nile Delta A delta is a triangle shaped area of fertile soil that appears at the end of a river.

5 Natural Walls Geography protects people with natural features that can act like walls or barriers to keep people out.

6 Floods Like in Mesopotamia, the Nile River floods bringing fresh soil in the Spring.
