SPRAINS: Injuries to the ligaments

STRAINS: Injuries to the muscles or tendons

FRACTURES: Broken bones of the forearm, wrist or hand

BOXER’S Fx: Fx to the 4th or 5th metacarpal.

DISLOCATIONS: Dislocations occurs when the bone/bones are moved from their normal position.

MALLET FINGER/BASEBALL FINGER:
Caused by a direct blow forcing the distal phalange into flexion & tearing the extensor tendon.

JERSEY FINGER: This injury occurs when a player grabs a jersey with the tips of the fingers. Causing the tip of the finger (DIP) to get forced into extension & tears the flexor tendon. (opposite of baseball finger)

BOUTONNIERE DEFORMITY:
This deformity occurs after a blow or injury that tears the tendon sheath holding the tendons in place and the tendons slip.

GAMEKEEPER’S THUMB: This injury occurs when the thumb gets bent back into extension causing a sprain/tear in the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb.
