BEAM COMMISSIONING Cornell Bartnik A       Gun, Injector Cryomodule (ICM), and Beam Stop (Complete) This scope includes commissioning activities such as machine operation and minor maintenance to recover basic operation of the gun, injector, and beam dump subsystems, and test at KPP current. A       Diagnostics Line (Existing but Relocated) This scope includes commissioning activities such as machine operation and minor maintenance to determine the injector operating point, and optimize bunch properties. A       Main Linac Cryomodule (MLC) This scope includes commissioning activities such as machine operation and minor maintenance to verify that required MLC operating points can be reached with beam. A       Fractional Arc This scope includes commissioning activities such as machine operation and minor maintenance to verify FFAG magnets with beam, and any required splitter adjustment. A       Single Pass, Energy Scan This scope includes commissioning activities such as machine operation and minor maintenance to verify full arc beam optics and FFAG energy acceptance. A       Single Pass, Energy Recovery This scope includes commissioning activities such as machine operation and minor maintenance to reach KPP goals A       Four Pass Energy Recovery This scope includes commissioning activities such as machine operation and minor maintenance to push for UPP goals.

5 Commissioning Phases Gun, Injector, Beam Stop (A1.12.01)
MLC Test (A ) Diagnostics Line (A ) Partial Arc (A ) Single Pass, Energy Scan (A ) Single Pass, Energy Rec. (A ) Four Pass, Energy Rec. (A )

6 All costs were based on expert judgement
Basis of Estimate All costs were based on expert judgement Each commissioning phase has 2 operators, each with 1.5 shifts per day 8 hours budgeted klystron time / day BNL visiting scientist covered outside project Expected diagnostic/tech/SRF support from previous experience Commissioning phase durations begin at a construction completion milestone and end at a required beam test milestone.

7 Cost Estimate Overview

8 Major Risks Construction delays lead to limited commissioning time
Mitigation Flexible commissioning plan (delay some aspects, focus on key goals) Reduce scope (less optics verification, end at KPP) Cost / schedule impact Increased labor (more shifts) Permanent magnet damage by radiation Test during first FFAG beam test If beam is not in beam stop, only enable laser for diagnostic measurement Time to remove magnet, re-shim or replace Beam halo prevents KPP current Large phase adjustment in splitters allows more flexible optics Increase bunch rate (lower charge) for same KPP current Simulations from known halo sources Time for optics adjustment (trial/error), 1 week downtime for laser modification

9 Procurement Plan No major items to be procured
