2 AAUW Finance Officer Timeline
July 1 July 1: The membership and fiscal year begins July 1: Branch Dues Reports (BDRs) are due from branch finance officers. Printable copies are sent during the first week in May. Those who prefer to work online can use the Member Services Database (MSD) to submit dues or the Membership Payment Program (MPP) The branch/state president arranges for a review of the prior year’s financial records. Use a former branch finance officer, state finance officer, or a similar financial person July 15 – Oct 15: Complete the Group Tax Exemption annual form located in the Member Services Database when it is open each year from July 15-October 15, to be included on AAUW’s master list of recognized AAUW affiliated entities with the IRS. In that same form, choose if you’ll be filing the branch and/or state 990-N (e-Postcard) for the year yourself or if you’d like the national office to file on behalf of the branch and/or state

September Financial officer reviewers present a brief report to members of the branch/state and board and members. AAUW Finance Department will notify all branches/states via (from to submit the Group Exemption Survey form (see page 23) October - November File IRS Form 990-N, 990-EZ, or 990 per IRS gross receipts and total asset thresholds Review the list of members and student affiliates sent to you by AAUW national office Advise Connect2AAUW if your records do not match (see Membership Tool Kit) December Dec 31: The contribution year for recognition purposes ends. Contributions must be postmarked by December 31st of the year in which contributions are made. Send AAUW and AAUW Action Fund contributions immediately to the national office

January Jan 1: The contribution recognition year begins Jan 31: The last day that dues and fees can be received by the national office to be included in the official February 1 membership count (see Membership Tool Kit) Work with your leadership to begin developing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year February - March Ensure the accuracy of the February 1 count you receive from national office (see Membership Tool Kit) March 31: Start MPP electronic renewal invoices to branch members

April - May Present budget for approval for the upcoming July 1 – June 30 fiscal year April 30: Repeat MPP electronic renewal invoices to branch members May31: Repeat MPP electronic renewal invoices to branch members June Jun 1: Officer Forms are due at the national office submitted by the President/Administrator Make sure your name is listed as the finance officer if continuing or provide the name of the new finance officer in order to receive all the mailings. Do not forget to include your address Jun 30: Fiscal year ends and Branch Due Report (BDR) is due Jun 30: Repeat MPP electronic renewal invoices to branch members
