2 League of Arab States (LAS)
On 28 October 2009, Ministries of Transports of the LAS asked for the implementation of UN facilitation tools for trade and road transport, namely the TIR Convention, and to increase the cooperation with the IRU. (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

The IRU helps and assists countries and Customs Authorities of the LAS region to implement the TIR Convention by : TIR distance learning activities, made in collaboration with WCO, available in Arabic (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

Revitalisation of the TIR System in Morocco through: Public-Private Partnership between Customs Authorities of Morocco, National Association and IRU signature of a protocol on technical cooperation to implement teh most advanced TIR IT Risk Management Tools (SafeTIR and TIR-EPD) Objectives: reinforce security through risk management and advance cargo information (as per WCO Safe Framework) reduce and speed up formalities at borders (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

Revitalisation of the TIR System in Morocco through: Realisation of TIR pilot transports by moroccan road transport operators Objectives 9 scenarii of transport operations to demonstrate the benefits of the TIR Convention for multimodal transport (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

Revitalisation of the TIR System in Morocco through: Extensive cooperation with port authorities of Tanger MED and Customs Objectives: Ensure priority treatment for TIR, RO-RO and container trafic. Concrete result: TIR, RO-RO and container go through port in 1 hour (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

IRU and UNCTAD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (27 April 2010) outlining areas of future cooperation between the two partner organisations ASYCUDA WORLD TIR © International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

9 ASYCUDA WORLD TIR Objective:
Allow the many countries of the League of Arab States using ASYCUDA to benefit from the most modern instruments of the TIR Convention (ie. Syria, Tunisia, etc.). MCC (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

Cooperation with Minister of Transport of Syria in the drafting of the new Syrian Transport Law. 12 African Union for Transport and Logistics
Objectives: Promote road transport towards governments and regional institutions Invite African states to join the main international instruments aiming at facilitating trade and road transports such as the UN Harmonisation Convention of Border controls of goods and the TIR Convention 10 more countries should join by the end of the year to fully cover Maghreb and Western Africa Create an IRU Regional Commitee for Africa (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010

13 CONCLUSION All these actions will be continued over 2011.
IRU will be happy to report on the progress during at the next meeting of Ministers of Transport of the League of Arab States in October 2011. (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2010
