Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) Part 2: Information and Communications Section 14: Accessible websites and web content

3 Compliance deadlines By January 1, 2014, new internet websites and web content on those sites must conform with WCAG 2.0 Level A By January 1, 2021, all internet websites and web content must conform with WCAG 2.0 Level AA, other than i) success criteria Captions (Live), and ii) success criteria Audio Descriptions (Pre-recorded)

4 New internet website A website or web application with a new domain name A website or web application with an existing domain name undergoing a significant refresh, where more than 50% of the following has changed: Navigation and structure Look and feel Content Or cumulative total of these elements

5 Web content Includes images, audio, video, forms, documents
All public pages and documents that were published after January 1, 2012 must conform Don’t have to modify content before January 1, 2012, but when requested content needs to be provided in an accessible format For educational and work materials, a mechanism must be in place to provide an accessible version when requested if it’s not already accessible

6 Websites that are public and within our control
Not intranets or extranets Websites, web-based applications and web content that you can modify in some way

7 Preparing for the January 1, 2021 compliance deadline
By January 1, 2017, aim to have: All new pages and documents meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA compliance Plans produced detailing how all pages and documents published between January 1, 2012 and December 31, are going to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA compliance by January 1, 2021

8 WCAG 2.0 Level AA To meet Level AA conformance you need to satisfy all Level A and Level AA Success Criteria

9 Example of Level AA Success Criteria
1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum): The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, except for the following: Large Text Incidental Logotypes

10 Example of a Sufficient Technique that meets Success Criteria 1.4.3
G18: Ensuring that a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 exists between text (and images of text) and background behind the text

11 Level AA Success Criteria
