Bellwork 3-1 Answers Yesterday was one of the best days of the summer. The weather couldn’t have been better for hiking. Saturday and Sunday were both good days, but Sunday was better. Take out good and replace with best for the superlative form. Take out more to use the comparative form. The best should be better because you are comparing two things.

Bellwork 3-2 Well I just had my baddest basketball game ever. My first shot missed by a mile and the next was even worst. I thought that it couldn’t get any more bad, and then I fell down. There are 5 errors Learning Goal: The student is able to find the grammatical errors in the sentence.

Bellwork 3-2 Answers Well, I just had my worst basketball game ever. My first shot missed by a mile, and the next was even worse. I thought that it couldn’t get any worse, and then I fell down. Well is an introductory word and needs a comma after it. You need a comma after mile because it is a compound sentence. Baddest is not a word. The correct word is worst. Worst should be worse because you are comparing two things. More bad is incorrect. The word should be worse.

Bellwork 3-3 My Uncle is giving a party for his girlfreind t.j. Davis. Shes a Police Officer and was recently promoted to Captain. I wonder if uncle Bill will call his girlfriend captain Davis. There are 11 errors Learning Goal: The student is able to find the grammatical errors in the sentence.

Bellwork 3-3 Answers My uncle is giving a party for his girlfriend, T.J. Davis. She’s a police officer and was recently promoted to captain. I wonder if Uncle Bill will call his girlfriend Captain Davis. Uncle should not be capitalized because it is not a proper noun. T.J. should be capitalized because it is her initials. Girlfriend is misspelled Girlfriend needs to have a comma after it because and appositive follows it. She’s needs an apostrophe because it is a contraction for she is. Police officer and captain should not be capitalized because they are common nouns-they are not naming the specific police officer or captain. Uncle Bill should be capitalized because it is a specific name. Captain Davis should be capitalized because it is a specific name.

Bellwork 3-4 Just bought a journal. Pen, too. Plan to write in that journal every day. Or try to, anyway. There are 11 errors Learning Goal: The student is able to find the grammatical errors in the sentence.

Bellwork 3-4 Answers I just bought a journal and a pen. I plan to write in that journal every day, or I’ll try to, anyway. Need to have “I” before the word just as the subject of the sentence. Just needs to be lowercase. Remove the period after journal. Need to make pen, too as part of the first sentence to get rid of the fragment. Pen needs to be lowercase. Place a period after pen. Add the word “and” and eliminate the word “too.” Need to have “I” before the word plan as the subject of the sentence. Plan needs to be lowercase. Need to join “or try to, anyway” to the other sentence to eliminate the fragment. Or needs to be lowercase.

Bellwork 3-5 Curt and me had an adventure last year. After us climbed a farmers fence, a bull chased he and I. Curt was scared, but I was more frightened than him. There are 5 errors Learning Goal: The student is able to find the grammatical errors in the sentence.

Bellwork 3-5 Answers Curt and I had an adventure last year. After we climbed a farmer’s fence, a bull chased him and me. Curt was scared, but I was more frightened than he. The pronoun needs to be I since I is the subject pronoun and Curt and I is the subject of the sentence. Us should be we for the same reason. Him and me should be the pronouns since him and me are object pronouns-they receive the action of the sentence. He should be the pronoun in the last sentence because it needs to have a subject pronoun.

Bellwork 3-7 Answers My most special day was when I visited Wolf park. The wolves were friendlier and smaller than I had expected. They weren’t any bigger than my dog. No such word as specialist. Most special is the correct way to write this. No need for more in front of friendlier. No need for less in front of smaller. Bigger is the word that is needed.

Bellwork 3-8 Answers I woke up late, skipped breakfast, and couldn’t find my homework. I tripped on a skate, fell down the front steps, and tore my pants. 18 Bellwork 3-9 The interviewer asked me “what students my age like to read?” I said “well, I can tell you what I like.” “my favorite stories,” I said, “Are the ones about real people.” There are 6 errors Learning Goal: The student is able to find the grammatical errors in the sentence.

Bellwork 3-9 Answers The interviewer asked me what students my age like to read. I said, “Well, I can tell you what I like. My favorite stories,” I said, ‘are the ones about real people.” Quotation marks should be removed because they are not the persons actual words. Comma needs to be added after said to separate the quote from who is saying it. Well needs to be capitalized because it is the first word in a quote. My needs to be capitalized since it is the first word in a quote. Are should not be capitalized since it is still part of the quote.
