2. How they got there
The cardinals qualified for the last playoff spot as the wild card, on the last day of the regular season.
In the first division series, they played the Philadelphia phillies. They won game 5 to advance to the nlcs (National League championship series) against the Milwaukee brewers.
The Cardinals beat the brewers in 6 games to advance to the world series against the Texas Rangers.

Game 2: The rangers scored 2 runs in the 9th inning to beat the cardinals 2-1.
Game 3: Albert pujols hits 3 home runs to lead the cardinals to a 16-7 victory.
Game 4: The rangers shut out the cardinals in a 2-0 victory to even out the series 2-2.

David Freese walk off homerun in 6ame 6.
Game 5: The rangers score 2 late runs in the 8th inning to put them ahead for a 4-2 victory. Series is now 3-2 Texas. Texas only need to win 1 more game of the series to win the world series.
Game 6: down to their last strike in the 9th inning, david freese ties the game with a triple and then wins the game with a walk off home run in the 11th inning. On to game 7.
Game 7: pitcher Chris carpenter leads them again to a 6-2 victory and the cardinals win the series.

Had a game tying triple in the bottom of the 9th of game 6. Walk off homerun in the 11th inning.
