Provide evidence in support Give understanding of causes and effects, context, stakeholders, problems and solutions Build on past learning Provide justification for course of action Ensure responses are appropriate and effective Build collaboration and avoid duplication

4 Section E1: How is research done?
Primary research: First-hand information obtained directly from those involved or affected – interviews, focus groups, surveys etc Secondary (desk-based) research: Second-hand information that has already been recorded – websites, books, reports, statistics etc

5 Section E1: How is analysis done?
Ask questions about the information Be aware of bias Identify patterns, themes, gaps etc Understand what the data shows Collate findings Draw conclusions Make recommendations
