2 Civil war ravages Religious tensions sent Lebanon into a civil war.
Christian and Muslim militias battles each other. In 1982, Syria took control of Eastern Lebanon. War ended in 1990, Beirut was destroyed

3 Bombings in 1983 Occurred during Lebanese civil war.
2 truck bombs struck buildings, housing, United States and French military forces Killed 299 service men from America and France. Organization Islamic Jihad claimed responsible for bombing.

5 Hezbollah Hezbollah- A group and political party in Lebanon. Their current leader is Hassan Nasrallah. Hezbollah means “party of God” Abbas Al-Musawi- An influential Shia cleric and cofounder and secretary general of Hezbollah. Killed in 1992. Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah- The current and third secretary general of the Lebanese political and paramilitary organization Hezbollah.

6 Druze The Druze community contains elements of christianity, Judaism, and Islam. They believe in the transmigration of souls and the ultimate perfection of humankind. The Druze community is now in Israel and is the country’s special standing minority groups. Members of the community have attained high power positions in the political, public and military area. The First Druze settled in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.

7 Beirut- Capital and largest city of Lebanon.
Population is about 2 million. On peninsula of Lebanon's coast. Center of Lebanon’s economy and main sea port.

8 Palestinians contribute to ethnic conflict
This conflict was based on the tension balance that existed in Lebanon. Ethnic conflict theory looks beyond money, leaders, or power. Israeli and Palestinian nations claim territories in the areas of Palestine, but because of religious differences Jerusalem is the most disputed area. Despite the territory, politics, or economy standings their hate towards each other prevent from peace making.

9 Connection to Iran & Syria
One connection Lebanon has with Iran and Syria is they both funded and support Hezbollah. Syrian stayed in Lebanon after the war until They left after Lebanese protests. During the 1990’s, with Syrian guidance and Iranian weaponry, Hezbollah grew powerful into a competent guerilla force building Lebanese power. Twice in the years 1993 and 1996 they managed to have Israel withdraw from southern Lebanon in 2000

10 Hariri Family Saad Hariri- Politician and current prime minister of Lebanon. He is also the leader of Movement of the Future Rafic Hariri- Business tycoon and prime minister of Lebanon from and again in He is widely credited with reconstructing Beirut after the 15 year war
