Don’t worry if you haven’t taken Part II before you apply. Take it when you’re ready and will do well. It can be added later.
ADAT: Logan will discuss it more- still new. Some programs may require it, some may suggest it-check to see what you need
Evaluations: These will be most critical since we’re Pass/Fail. Ask people who know you well and can speak to your character as well as your skills. Provide them with a CV so they know something about you.
Essay: Think about what you want to write about-meaningful, unique, why that program or speciality-personal story

9. Begin as early as possible
Write your personal statement.
Update accomplishments and professional experiences on a CV/Resume.
Identify professors and mentors to ask to write a reference letter.
Provide them with your CV and name of program you’re applying to
Order and collect pertinent materials –test scores, transcripts, etc
D3’s –you’ll be trying to finish up requirements and moving so work on this now during your “down” time.
D1 and D2: Keep track of things in a folder so it’s ready when you need it

10. Institutional Evaluations
The Institution Evaluation Form (IEF, also called the dean’s letter) is an evaluation of the applicant completed by the dean of the dental school (or his designee).
The IEF is an evaluation sent to every program a candidate applies to.
This evaluation is required for every U.S. applicant.

12. Professional Evaluations
Professional Evaluation Forms (PEFs), which are similar to traditional letters of evaluation, will be required.
Applicants can request an unlimited number of electronic or paper PEFs; however, applicants must send a minimum of two PEFs and a maximum of four PEFs to each program.
The letters can be customized, meaning an applicant can choose to send the same evaluations or different evaluations to each program designated.

Check and double check the program requirements to make sure you have everything
Give people who are writing your LOR plenty of advanced notice. We can write a more thoughtful, comprehensive letter if you don’t need it the next day!
You may need to follow up or give them a reasonable deadline.
Send the application as early as possible
Consider tracking supplemental documents or information.

17. What is PASS What is Match and What is the difference?

18. ADEA PASS and the Match are separate and distinct services.
ADEA PASS is a central application service which distributes application information to programs to initiate the application process.
The Match is used by applicants and programs to determine the final placement of applicants into positions after the application and evaluation process is completed.
ADEA PASS is administered by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), while the Match is administered by National Matching Services, Inc. (NMS).

19. The Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program (the “Match”) is the mechanism used by some postdoctoral dental education programs to determine the final placement of applicants into positions.
The Match provides an orderly process to help applicants obtain positions in the first year of training in postdoctoral programs of their choice, and to help programs obtain applicants of their choice.

21. Other information about Match
Participation in Match is voluntary for programs
Check with the program your applying to and find out
Many programs participate in PASS and Match some only in PASS and some only in Match. Some participate in neither.

22. Review
If you are applying to programs that participate in PASS, you’ll have to submit an application to those programs.
If you are applying to programs that participate in Match, you’ll have to register for Match in order to obtain a position in any of those programs.

23. Match registration
You have to register for Match if you are participating in in any of the programs that require it. (See earlier slide)
Register for Match using the ADEA PASS/Match registration. You need to provide information about yourself, agree to the terms of the agreement and pay the fee!

24. Applying for Match It is recommended you do this before October 1.
You MUST register before the final deadlines for submitting Rank Order lists. Check program deadlines.
Wait until you interview
Choose and rank only sites you are interested in
Once you Match, you are obligated to matriculate into the program

25. Other information regarding Match
Non-Match programs will typically make an offer quickly and before the Match deadline
You can accept a position before the deadline for Match but you must withdraw from all other programs.
If you don’t withdraw, you must abide by the result of the Match and accept the position to which you matched.
