Ramadan is a holiday which is celebrated by Muslims all around the world.
It is the ninth month of the Islamic calender and is the month where Muslims begin to fast. The month lasts 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon. The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramiḍa or ar-ramad which means scorching heat or dryness. While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking and more. Food and drink is served daily, before sunrise and after sunset. Muslims fast to show sympathy toward the poor and the people who go through this experience daily.
