Topic 4 revision Must calculate moles in gases. Should describe what a dynamic equilibrium is with example. Could explain the environmental problems with using fertilizer. ======================== Starter: recap ...titration: “In a titration, 20 cm3 of 1.0 mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid, HCl, reacted with 25 cm3 of sodium hydroxide, NaOH. What was the concentration of the sodium hydroxide?”

2 Triangles... Draw the 2 triangles needed for moles in gases questions.
Why is the number 24 significant? If the volume is given in cm3 then what should we divide by?

3 Conditions... What is RTP? What are the values of RTP?

4 Work these out... What is the volume in dm3 of 0.85 g of a gas of molecular mass 17? 2.55g of a gas had a volume of 0.6 dm3. What is its molecular mass? Given the equation for aluminium dissolving in dilute sulphuric acid: 2Al(s) + 3H2SO4(aq) ==> Al2(SO4)3(aq) + 3H2(g) What volume of hydrogen, in dm3, is formed, when 54g of aluminium dissolves?

5 Reactions What do you already know about different types of reaction?
Create a mind map of what you already know!

6 Name 2 factors that can cause equilibrium position to change
1 2 3 Draw the symbol for a reversible reaction All reactions are either _______ or ________. A dynamic equilibrium happens when .... 4 5 6 What product do we get from the Haber process? What is a closed system? What are the compromise conditions used in the Haber process? For this task you need to change the questions to cover the topic you have taught as this is used as an AfL tool in the lesson. Each pupil is given a sheet and they have to go and ask different people in the room if they know the answer to the question. If they know the answer, they write down there name but not the answer yet. They cannot have the same person answer more than two questions on the sheet. When the task is finished choose random pupils to give the names of the person who knows the answer then get that pupil to share this with the class. If the class agree, write down the answer in the box. This task promotes the pupils interpersonal skills through communication and peer teaching. 7 8 9 Write the balanced symbol equation for the Haber process... With state symbols. Why is ammonia needed? Name 2 factors that can cause equilibrium position to change

7 Fertilizer Why do we use it?
What is the main environmental problem with it? Describe the steps in eutrophication.

8 Compromise conditions
Why is a compromise of 450 degrees Celsius used even though a very low temp would get us a high yield of ammonia? Even though a high pressure is needed for the Haber process, why do we use a compromise of 200 atmospheres?

9 =================================
Equilibrium position... When does the Haber process eq. position change to the left? When does the Haber process eq. position change to the right? ================================= Describe the Haber process in as much detail as you can (6*)
