Muslim Scholars
They knew the classical Greek and Roman writings.
They passed on their knowledge to Western Europeans.
Francesco Petrarch
He studied Roman writers and wrote biographies of famous Romans.
He found old Latin manuscripts in monasteries.
He wrote sonnets in the vernacular (everyday) language so more people could read them.
