14 Video Now we will view a video on place value of whole numbers. After the video is over, we will practice working on place values.

15 Place value To write numbers, we use any one of the ten digits in any place value. Example: 432 has a 4 in the hundreds place, a 3 in the tens place, and a 2 in the ones place. Here is place value chart for a large number.

20 Comparing and Ordering Whole Numbers
Comparing and ordering whole numbers are important to understand. You need to know which numbers are smaller or larger. The way you can do this is by understanding the VALUE of each digit in their respective places.

21 Video Now we will view a video on comparing and ordering whole numbers. After the video is over, we will practice comparing and ordering some whole numbers.

22 Understand??? 20. Put these numbers in order: 262, 280, , 247, 293, 263 21. Put these numbers in order: 999, 878, 901, 109, 199, 888 <,> or = ___877 ___626 ___351 ___ Decimal Place Value Back to main menu?

23 More Practice with comparing
Use <,> or = ___912 10. 9,033 ___ 9,133 11. 1,338 ___ 1,388 12. 7,325 ___ 7,321 13. In the number 767, does the first 7 have the same value as the final 7? Why or why not?

24 Practice with ordering
Order the following numbers from least to greatest on your own paper. 8493, 7438, 63662, 93923, 1343, 4892 ______________________________________ 345, 7839, 67, 229, 4589, 42 _______________________________________

25 More Practice with ordering
Order the following numbers from greatest to least on your own paper. 8493, 7438, 63662, 93923, 1343, 4892 ______________________________________ 345, 7839, 67, 229, 4589, 42 _______________________________________

26 What we have learned Digits are put in place values to write numbers.
Place value determines the value of a digit. We can compare whole numbers using the signs > greater than, < less than and = equal to. We can order numbers by comparing their place values and digits.
