5. How To See Your Counselor or the Intervention Counselor
Make an appointment. The counselor secretary will schedule appointments for you before school, during lunch or after school.
Leave a note explaining your questions/concerns for your counselor with the counselor secretary if your counselor is unavailable.
Parents can call ext 3430 or their child’s counselor directly
If you have an emergency and your counselor is not available, informed the counselor secretary and they will find someone to assist you.

6. Stay on Track…
It is essential that students remain “on track” through high school.
Failure to pass required classes not only puts the student at risk of not graduating on time, but it also limits the variety of electives available to that student.
Summer school opportunities are extremely limited!!!

8. How is your child placed in classes?
Counselors create schedules based on junior high teachers’ recommendation

9. Sample Freshman Schedule
A typical 9th grade schedule consists of six classes: English Math Science PE Freshman Transition/Health Elective

11. Grading The school year is divided into two semesters:
Students receive two progress reports, at 6-week intervals, each semester. These grade are not permanent. Note: Make sure we have your correct address.
Students receive final grades at the end of each semester. These grades are permanent.
GPA starts to be calculated in 9th grade:
Cumulative GPA is calculated at the end of each semester.
Students generally take 6 classes each year:
Each class is worth 5 credits per semester, so students can earn 30 credits per semester.

14. A.V.I.D. Advanced Via Individual Determination
AVID elective provides students with guidance and instruction to prepare them for eligibility into a four-year institution. Students interested in the AVID program need to apply and interview. Mr. Davis(coordinator) and Ms. Gonzales(counselor) oversee the recruiting process.
