ISSUES and CHALLENGES Cooking Cost is inadequate to meet the required food norm laid down in the guidelines. Frequent blockade of National Highways in the State make things more difficult. Monitoring in schools of remote areas is still a great challenge. Inadequate transportation charges of food grains. The present transportation charges are not enough to meet the expenditure to deliver food grains at the doorstep of schools.
21
ISSUES and CHALLENGES Poor drinking water facility at school level.
Dedicated MDM staff is highly required. Difficult to engage staff due to inadequate MME fund. As per local market price, the required cooking cost for Primary is Rs and Rs for Upper Primary. Difficulty in transferring Cook honorarium through bank accounts due to difficult terrain and poor banking network. Poor multi-tap/tap hand washing facilities at school level.
22
MEASURES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Bulk SMS service helps in sorting out issues under the scheme from time to time through direct communication between State and Districts/Schools. LPG connection to 300 schools has been provided as assured during the last PAB. Better convergence with State Health Society under School Health Programme. Automated Monitoring System has been rolled out for monitoring.
23
MEASURES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Capacity building of Head Masters/Mistresses in 5(five) zones conducted. At least a teacher of each of schools under MDM scheme have been imparted training under School Health Programme in convergence with State Health Society. Number of inspections by the State/District Teams has been increased. Construction of kitchen sheds is in progress.
24
MME PLAN Awareness campaign through print and electronic media.
Capacity Building Programmes for all stakeholders in all zones of the State. Strengthening monitoring mechanism by increasing the extent and frequency of field inspection, conducting social audits and encouraging community participation. Engagement of dedicated MDM staff at State, Zone and Block levels. Awareness campaign through print and electronic media.
