9 WHAT’S THE VALUE? System view of performance with ability to drill down to provider level All patients within a system are included in the population. All payers are represented. Delivers a ready-made patient registry. Delivers roadmap for improvement. Foundation for pay-for-performance Registry “Starter Kit” 10,000 Foot View Not just the patients I am seeing (make sure to check LDL tomorrow when they come), but also Eloise who has not been in to see me since her bunion surgery prep visit (I didn’t check her A1c that visit, and I haven’t done so for the past 18 months!)

10 LESSONS LEARNED Multiple stakeholder involvement and buy-in Physicians and clinical leaders must be part of the measure development process. Physicians must have the ability to review results in context with others prior to the results being made publicly available. Data must be easily available and accessible from sources such as electronic medical or administrative (billing) records. Measures must be easily interpretable for the reader to attach practical meaning in making healthcare designs without significant explanation.
