Photosynthesis
3
WHAT ARE WE TESTING? Hypothesis
How the surface area of a leaf affects photosynthesis We believe that the leaf with the larger surface area will have the higher rate of photosynthesis because more sunlight can be collected. Hypothesis
4
Controlled Variables and Constants
Light Age (just a constant) Surface area of leaves Dependant Variable
5
Independent Variables
Rate of photosynthesis that occurs The time used Seconds and minutes that the light is on Parts per million that measure
6
Materials 6 leaves from a pachina(money tree) plant C02 sensor
Jar or chamber Lamp with a 60 watt incandescent bulb Laptop Logger Pro software Stop watch Connecter cords Ruler
7
Set Up
8
Measurement of the Surface Area of the Leaves
Leaf 1: 1.5 inches squared Leaf 2: 2 inches squared Leaf 3: 2.34 inches squared Leaf 4: 5.25 inches squared Leaf 5: 5.25 inches squared Leaf 6: 6 inches squared
9
Procedure Measured each surface are of each leaf
Tested the CO2 concentration of each leaf Entered the data into Logger Pro Constructed a line graph to compare the concentrations
11
Conclusion Bigger the leaf slower the rate of photosynthesis
