NATIONAL ARCHERY in the SCHOOLS PROGRAM
This is Conner Middle School’s 4th year participating in NASP.

2. N.A.S.P. IS ORIENTED TO TARGET ARCHERY
Although NASP® founders are lifetime hunters, NASP® is strictly target archery.
Archery is a lifetime skill and the program is designed to reach all students whether rural, urban or special needs.
Teaching a lifetime skill.
The individual will have the ability to choose whether to continue target shooting or try other venues.
Archery allows students another option to keep them involved in school.

3. GUIDING PRINCIPLES: SAFETY
SAFETY IS First and foremost in each NASP® school program.
It just so happens that according to the National Safety Council, archery is safer than every ball sport offered in schools except....table tennis.
Safety and range set-up is consistent throughout NASP® Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) courses. 
It is the archers’ responsibility to set up the range upon arrival to the cafeteria. This will ensure that we maximize practice time.

4. EQUIPMENT & UNIVERSAL FIT
No matter the students size, ability, or gender every archer in NASP® uses an identical bow, identical arrows, and learns to shoot at distances that guarantee immediate success.
We stress the teaching of skills over technology.
Each student learns on identical equipment which is safe, universal fit, modern looking, affordable, durable and interesting for the teacher and student to learn.
This levels the playing field for all archers and encourages focus on technique and form instead of equipment and technology.

5. EQUIPMENT: PERSONAL EQUIPMENT
If students do use personal equipment for practices and/or competitions then it is their responsibility to ensure that the equipment is in good working condition.
We are not set up to make major repairs.
Keep an extra arrow rest and bow wax handy. We are not set up to make major repairs.
If students bring personal bows (arrows are not permitted) to school they must bring them to Ms. Schwartz’s room (111) between 7:00 and 7:25

6. BOWS Only tied or heat shrink nock locators may be used.
There may be one nock locator above and below the arrow nock.
If using 2 nock locators, the gap between them must be less than or equal to 1 – 1.5 nock widths. The archer must nock the arrow between the two nock locators.
If using 1 nock locator the archer must nock the arrow below the nock locator.
The temporary attachment of carabineers or other devices to the bow during any flight is prohibited.

7. BOWS Tape, paint or sharpie must be used to cover sight marks.
The covering must be applied to the face of the sight window at a point starting at the top of the bow’s grip and running at least 6” up the face of the sight window.
Any tape used must be a single piece of tape applied vertically and shall not be wrapped around the sight window.
The bow’s grip may be painted for personalization, however, the paint must be a solid color.
No textured material or paint that dries with a textured finish may be used.

8. BOWS The crest (“Genesis” label) must be visible and readable.
Finger slings, if worn, are only to be put in place once the first whistle command to shoot has been blown.
The bow must be free of any devices used to dampen vibration.
This includes not allowing tape to be wrapped around to “join” two bow limbs. Tape may only be wrapped around one bow limb.

9. TARGETS
Target faces will be placed on the target butts so that the bottom edge is touching the floor or as close to the floor as possible.

10. GENERAL
In NASP® learning the “process” of shooting is stressed far more than arrow scores.
The only bow used in NASP® is a “Genesis®” compound which has no let-off and is adjustable from pounds in draw weight at any draw length.
Only full-length aluminum arrows are used in NASP® to fit every student and to preserve NASP®’s perfect safety record.
Sights, release aids, and stabilizers are kept out of NASP® to facilitate equipment sharing among students in archery class.
Finally, competitive distances in NASP® are 10 and 15 meters.

11. TEAMS A NASP® team is 12-24 archers
There must be at least 4 archers of the opposite gender.
Team scores are compiled from the top 12 archers scores & must include at least 4 of the opposite gender scores.
All archers must wear the same uniform. (This is a new rule.)
NASP® is a Life Sport. the way the teams are structured more students have the opportunity to compete.

12. COMMITMENT
To be a part of the cms archery team, you need to be at practice a minimum of once per week.
Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays
You must stay one of these days but it does not have to be the same day each week.
While not one of the 16 archers shooting archers should work on schoolwork, reading, or some other academic quiet activity.
Practice is from immediately after school until 4:30.

13. ELIGIBILITY
Your grades are checked each week by Conner Middle’s Athletic Director and by us.
You cannot be behind in 3 areas (3 focus areas or 3 projects or a combination)
example: 2 focus areas and 1 project
If you are ineligible when grades are checked:
You cannot practice
You cannot compete
You won’t be able to practice or compete until you are no longer behind.
If you have become ineligible 2 times throughout the season, you will be dismissed from the team.

14. DISMISSAL
3 absences from practices will result in dismissal from the team.
3 contract violations will also result in dismissal from the team.
Academic ineligibility two times during the season.

15. TOURNAMENTS Tournament fees are paid for by cms.
Archers do not have to pay their own tournament fees at team competitions.
Only CMS coaches can sign students up for a team tournament.**
Archers will, however, need to find transportation to the tournaments.
Archers must be present a minimum of 30 minutes prior to their flight.
There is an admission fee for spectators which varies based on the hosting team.

16. TOURNAMENTS **
The school makes the decision if an archer can participate.
Missing a tournament without notice will result in sitting out the next tournament the archer is eligible to compete in.
BAI certification does not give anyone the right to sign archers up for events. The school must give you permission to do so.
