13.4 Graphing Lines in Slope-Intercept Form
2/13/17
2
Intercepts of Graphs x-intercept: the x coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x axis y-intercept: the y coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y axis
3
Example 1 Identify the x- and y-intercepts of the graph below.
4
Slope-Intercept Form
5
Graphing Put equation into slope-intercept form. Plot the y intercept.
Move from the y intercept according to the slope. Move up or down according to the numerator (positive means up, negative means down) Move to the right according to the denominator (not left!) Draw a line through the points.
6
Example 2 Find the slope and y-intercept of Then graph the equation and identify the x-intercept.
7
Example 3 Find the slope and y-intercept of Then graph the equation and identify the x-intercept.
8
Example 4 Find the slope and y-intercept of Then graph the equation and identify the x-intercept.
9
If given a graph, you can write an equation in slope-intercept form.
